By clearing landmines and other explosive devices, we protect civilians and livelihoods, and safeguard the delivery of urgent humanitarian supplies in Yemen.
Briefed on the critical, life-saving work of the Saudi-funded MASAM project @masam_eng. Clearing the vast number of landmines left behind by the Houthis is a fundamental prerequisite for the safety of civilians, humanitarian access, and long-term recovery in Yemen. The MASAM team does invaluable work at great personal risk.

The discovery of mines near homes in Bani Fayd, Midi District, highlights the importance of community reporting in helping Project Masam teams locate and remove #explosive threats before accidents occur.

#FoodSecurity begins with safe access to land. When farmland, grazing areas, and water sources are contaminated by #landmines, communities face additional obstacles to supporting themselves and their families. Clearing #explosive hazards helps restore that access.

"Food security depends on more than food. When #landmines contaminate farmland, grazing areas, water sources, and transport routes, they prevent communities from accessing the resources they need to support themselves. #Humanitarian#MineAction helps remove those barriers." - @AlgosaibiOusama, MD, Project Masam

Nearly half of #Yemen's population is experiencing acute #foodinsecurity, according to the @UN. When farmland, grazing areas, and access routes are contaminated by #landmines, communities face yet another barrier to recovery. Humanitarian #MineAction helps restore access to land and livelihoods.

In 2022, States Parties to the #Ottawa Convention granted #Yemen a five-year extension to meet its mine clearance obligations, extending the country's Article 5 deadline until 1 March 2028. The decision recognised the scale of contamination affecting communities across Yemen. But, years later, contamination continues to threaten civilians across Yemen, despite increasing efforts to clear these deadly devices.
