Today at Magere, I delivered our end of 2024 address to the nation.

In a nutshell, I saluted the resilience of Ugandans amidst the immense challenges we faced under the Museveni regime. 2024 reminded us of the urgent need for change, as the plunder of our national resources, economic despair and mismanagement, and human rights abuses continued to plague our nation.

In 2024, Uganda faced countless trials including corruption scandals, rising unemployment, bad governance, political persecution, and tragic disasters like the Kiteezi landfill collapse that claimed over 30 lives. We also endured increased abductions like that of Dr. Kizza Besigye from Kenya, the continued militarization of our country, and deliberate attacks on the independence of institutions like the judiciary which forced Justice Esther Kisakye to flee or her life. Yet, amidst this, the courage and tenacity of ordinary Ugandans kept us going.

As we step into 2025, let’s recommit to holding the regime accountable, advocating for justice, and building a better Uganda. To all political prisoners still behind bars, we remain steadfast in our demand for your freedom.

Come 2025, we must keep fighting to reclaim our dignity and a future of freedom, justice, and opportunity for all. Together, we shall overcome! #FreeAllPoliticalPrisonersInUg #BringBackOurPeople

In the meantime, this is the situation at our home in Magere! In addition to the stationary as well as mobile cameras planted all around our home, they are now seated on top of police trucks monitoring directly whatever is happening inside our compound. A blatant breach of our right to privacy. Our neighbors are also being grossly incovenced by these criminal actions. You wonder why they don't put the resources they invest in this impunity to improve the lives of our people!!

Earlier at Namirembe Cathedral, I was very pleased to join other dignitaries to honor the Retired Justice of the Supreme Court, G. W. Kanyeihamba at a Thanksgiving Service organised for him. Justice Kanyeihamba remains a shining light in many respects. He has served his country with firmness and conviction. It is therefore befitting that he is being honored while he lives.

Busiro South Member of Parliament Hon. Charles Matovu is one of the hundreds of our leaders and supporters who are still in detention over ridiculous charges of planning to receive me back at the airport!! He is being detained at Entebbe Police. Regime operatives have over the past three days picked up over 300 people in Kampala and Wakiso, but we have information that many others were arrested in Masaka, Jinja, Luwero, Lira, Gulu, Mbale and other places. As our legal teams do everything to follow up these cases, we demand for their unconditional release because they committed no crime whatsoever. WE SHALL BE FREE.
