After the Loaves, Pick Up the Baskets: Why Fed Saints Must Become Serving Saints

Key Passage: John 13:14–15
“If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”

Introduction

There is a kind of Christianity in these last days that wants all the bread, all the fish, all the benefits, all the teaching, all the comfort, all the answers, all the free resources, all the prayers, all the direction, all the correction, all the warnings, all the doctrine, and all the labor of other people — but never wants to pick up a basket, never wants to pass a plate, never wants to wash a foot, never wants to bear a burden, never wants to lift a finger, and never wants to ask, “Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?” That is not New Testament Christianity. That is not the mind of Christ. That is not the spirit of a soldier, a servant, a steward, or a saint. That is religious consumerism dressed up in Bible language. Jesus Christ did not save a man so that man could sit forever in the bleachers, clapping when he likes the sermon, complaining when he does not, and expecting the same few people to carry the whole load until they drop. The Lord saved sinners, placed them into His body, gave them gifts, gave them light, gave them truth, gave them the word of God, and then expected them to walk, work, serve, pray, give, stand, testify, help, endure, and occupy till He comes.

When the Lord Jesus fed the multitude, He did not do it so they could form a permanent bread line and spend the rest of their lives waiting for another free meal. John 6 makes that painfully clear. After the miracle of the loaves and fishes, the crowd came looking for Him again, and the Lord put His finger right on the motive: “Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled” (John 6:26). There it is. That is the kind of verse that cuts through all the religious fog and lands right on the heart. They were not hungry for truth. They were hungry for another handout. They had eaten the bread, but missed the Bread. They had received the provision, but missed the Person. They loved the benefit, but not the doctrine. And when the Lord turned the conversation from physical bread to spiritual truth, from full bellies to eternal life, from the miracle to Himself, the Bible says, “From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him” (John 6:66). That crowd did not mind eating. They minded being confronted. They did not mind receiving. They minded being called higher.

That is a serious warning for any Bible ministry in this hour, and it is a serious warning for everyone who benefits from one. VerseQuest is not being built to entertain spectators. It is being built to shine light for people who are stumbling in darkness. Some are new believers who do not know where Genesis ends and Romans begins doctrinally. Some are wounded saints who have been lied to by false teachers. Some are confused by Calvinism, Catholicism, cults, prophecy speculation, modern versions, social media theology, and every wind of doctrine blowing across the internet. Some are grieving. Some are afraid. Some are trying to raise families in a filthy generation. Some are trying to understand the Bible after years of religious fog. The goal is to build one of the largest Bible-believing, KJV, rightly divided resource libraries available, so that somewhere, sometime, when a soul is blind and stumbling, there is light to be found. But if that kind of work is going to continue, expand, and reach further, then fed saints must become serving saints. Those who eat at the table must learn to help carry plates. Those who receive light must help hold the lamp.
