How common is zinc deficiency in #IBD and what are the consequences for the patient❓
@Badr_AlBawardy, @hindalmuhaya94, @MasharyMD, @AALMUTAIRDI & colleagues explored how common it is and the consequences:
✅ Zinc deficiency is more common in #Crohnsdisease than in #ulcerative colitis
👉 45.6% patients with Crohn's disease have zinc deficiency
✅ A lack of zinc is related to ⬆ markers of inflammation C-reactive protein and fecal calprotectin)
✅ It is associated with:
🔸⬆ inflammatory burden
🔸⬆ hospitalizations, surgeries, and complications

🎉 Thrilled to announce that our study on zinc deficiency and clinical outcomes in Inflammatory Bowel Disease has been published in Nutrients!
In our study, zinc deficiency was:
✅ Prevalent in 45 % of IBD patients
✅ Associated with higher CRP and FCP
✅ Associated with higher rates of IBD-related hospitalizations, surgeries, and complications
