Not to say things can't turn around, but I'm getting eerie 2019 Mitch Trubisky vibes from Justin Fields in Week 1 today.

I mean that in terms of situations. Entering Year 3, the #Bears still didn't know if Mitch was a star. They won a lot in 2018, but not much of it was on him. The expectations were higher in 2019, and he started off the year poorly Week 1 against the Packers. We all know how things ended.

Fields is different in that last year's team wasn't nearly as talented as the 2018 roster. I'd argue JF1 was also touted higher coming out of college. But he was also in that "let's wait and see" spot where you expected Year 3 to be the leap.

My fear is the same thing is happening all over again. It was clear after 2019 Mitch wasn't the guy, and Ryan Pace wasted another year trying to salvage it.

I think the individual flashes with Fields have been higher than they ever were with Mitch, but as long as the Bears aren't winning games, does that matter? Again: I'm hoping and rooting for JF1 to have a strong year. But I have that same bad, familiar taste in my mouth that I had back in 2019.
