BREAKING : Suspended deputy national commissioner Shadrack Sibiya is in the dock. The state and defence are not opposed to the bail application being broadcast with restrictions but that won’t proceed today because of time constraints. Members of the Mankweng Crime Prevention Unit recovered illicit cigarettes valued at approximately R100 000-00 following a high-speed police pursuit in the Molepo area during the early hours of Sunday, 20 September 2026.

At about 02:50, members were conducting patrols along the D4040 road at Ga-Rampheri when they spotted a white Mercedes-Benz, travelling at a high speed and appeared suspicious, prompting the police to signal the driver to stop.

The driver, however, failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The members pursued the vehicle until it reached a filling station at Ga-Chuene, within the Lebowakgomo policing area. The driver subsequently abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into the nearby bushes.

The police attempted to pursue the suspect but he managed to evade arrest. Members from SAPS Lebowakgomo were then summoned to the scene.

Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, police discovered a quantity of illicit cigarettes, which were seized including the suspect's vehicle. #StopIllicitTrade ML
