But these arguments do not withstand reasonable scrutiny and commit numerous logical fallacies. I can't say I'm as shocked by OP, I recognize how powerful bias is and don't think a PhD can overcome that.

The cause may or may not be sentient. It sounds like you think it's logical because "it makes sense"
