@LocalBtnMasher Games will continue to be diluted, training players to keep wanting that until games ultimately lose any unique appeal from other mediums and then the industry will die
@SeleAstraea New products aren’t entitled to audiences giving them a chance. Remember that these are products asking for our money and attention. It’s the producers’ job to sell the products to audiences, not the other way around
@obsessivetea For the shows that do deviate in aspects, they still try to preserve Gundam’s core in others. Of course whether a deviation goes too far is subjective
I never argued that Rogue Orbit was definitely not Gundam. Only that people are allowed to not be immediately sold on it
@obsessivetea If not by looks, function, world, or themes, then what makes a Gundam a Gundam? How do you determine a Gundam is present. If anything can be Gundam, nothing is Gundam. The name becomes pointless.
@obsessivetea I think the game looks like it could be interesting but I’m annoyed by the toxic positivity and brand cultists dismissing anyone who has doubts over what looks like a radical departure from the rest of the franchise. New entries shouldn’t simply coast off of brand recognition
@FriendWhoAsked Death of the author. To release a work is to cede control of it. Tomino’s influence isn’t the sole factor over whether I like a work. I like other Gundams not made by him. And if he does release a bad show, I’m not going to accept it solely because he made it and called it Gundam
@super_ult It’s been 2 years since Shadow Generations (which was a smaller project) and 4 years since Frontiers. Spin-offs like Crossworlds shouldn’t be taking away development resources from mainline entries
@Mrdiscman G Gundam is pretty out there with the goofy martial arts and stuff but it still shares the common themes of (proxy) wars carried out by corrupt power hungry authorities exploiting vulnerable youths, the dangers of unchecked military development, and the importance of human bonds
@JustAMothing “isn't that the entire point of a long running franchise? To find ways to reinvent itself?”
Not really, no. That’s what new IPs are for. The point of sticking to established IPs is to bank on reliable established consumer bases who are complacent with the familiar
@haalaphrodyke The sprites are about the same size as the 2D Guilty Gear games' sprites which were made for 480p. King of Fighters 12 and 13 also originally have an overall resolution of 720p but it was still obvious the sprites were lower res than that
