THE TWO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE NIGHTS THAT BROKE ME 💔 AC Milan 3-0 United (2007) 💔 Barcelona 2-0 United (2009 Final) After we demolished Roma 7-1 at Old Trafford, I genuinely believed nobody in Europe could stop us. We beat Milan 3-2 in the first leg at Old Trafford, and I was already thinking about the final. Then San Siro happened. 3-0. Dream over. I cried. But somehow, 2009 hurt even more. I was actually rooting for Barcelona to beat Chelsea in the semi-final because I feared Chelsea more than Barcelona. I didn't want another battle with Chelsea. Barcelona got through. Then they gave us a football lesson in the final. I walked into that match convinced United would win. I walked out knowing I had just watched one of the greatest football teams ever assembled. Almost twenty years later, no Champions League nights have hurt me more than those two.

We beat Milan 3-2 in the first leg at Old Trafford, and I was already thinking about the final.

But somehow, 2009 hurt even more.
I was actually rooting for Barcelona to beat Chelsea in the semi-final because I feared Chelsea more than Barcelona.
I didn't want another battle with Chelsea.

Barcelona got through.
Then they gave us a football lesson in the final.

I walked into that match convinced United would win.

I walked out knowing I had just watched one of the greatest football teams ever assembled.

Almost twenty years later, no Champions League nights have hurt me more than those two.

If United signs the midfielders people are asking for this summer... Or rather, Carrick is asking for this summer... and he still sets us up like underdogs at Old Trafford... playing reactive football... giving up control... waiting for transitions... I genuinely wonder what the excuse will be. Because at that point, the squad can no longer be blamed. The midfield can no longer be blamed. The conversation will have to become uncomfortable.

I will not celebrate any midfield signings that i believe will not improve the current midfield (Casimero x Mainoo). Sign someone better than those 2, and I will celebrate. No apologise.
