This is truly an amazing and meaningful effort. This kind of work will have a lasting impact for years to come. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to documenting such important narratives.
For 4 years, I've been traveling the world recording oral histories from Afghans and Americans who lived through the war in Afghanistan. 450 hours of interviews. 15+ countries. Full life histories—not just what people did, but who they were before and after.
On April 9th, @LTGHRMcMaster and I are launching the HART Afghanistan Oral History Archive at the @hooverinstitution. It's the largest collection of Afghan oral histories from the war, preserving voices and perspectives before they're lost.
Join us for the launch. Register in person or Zoom: https://t.co/OYBQ6hRshD

Crucial step forward by #ICC for accountability in #Afghanistan. Powerful messages - to Taliban leaders that justice will be pursued for their egregious crimes, and to the people of Afghanistan that their rights have not been forgotten. Official statement to follow.
The Taliban have resumed public lashings of women for what they consider morality crimes. In this video, Taliban members whip a woman in public, then shout "Allahu Akbar," celebrating their jihad against Afghan women.
“Apartheid involves the segregation of and discrimination against a group on the grounds of identity; Hazara women form a unique social category w/in Taliban’s gender apartheid. Hazara women are targeted on grounds of both gender & ethnicity/religion.” https://t.co/PL0uTj13zO
“Women and girls are being erased from public life, peaceful dissent is not tolerated, violence and the threat of violence are used with impunity to control and instil fear in the population,” see the press release on my #HRC55#Afghanistan report here: 👇 https://t.co/XLy1l2NUeR
I will correct this:
“women and girls must be able to fully and meaningfully participate in all aspects of life in AFGHANISTAN.”
There is no such thing as an “Afghan life”.
I would like to highlight that women in Afghanistan are the frontline defenders of human rights. They are not only fighting for their own rights but for everyone’s basic rights and an equal future.
"The @UN Human Rights Council’s responsibility is not only to hear about the situation for women & girls in Afghanistan, but also to do everything in its power to restore, protect & promote their rights & freedoms."
@SR_Afghanistan Richard Bennett speaking at #HRC53 in @UNGeneva
Today I spoke at the @UN_HRC 53rd Regular Session, focusing on the systematic persecution of the Hazara people in 🇦🇫 , highlighting the struggles of Hazara women, due to the intersectionality of gender, ethnicity & religion

Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a new process that will enable Afghan nationals to renew their parole and continue to live and work in the United States. The new process will be at no cost, and will provide for a two-year renewal of parole for qualifying individuals. A lot of good work went into this work by @afghanevac, @Afghan_American and other advocates!
