Today is June 3rd.

6/3.

I was born in 1963.

Turning 63 today.

That’s right.

6/3. 6/3. 63.

The triple crown of birthdays.

Every year on my birthday, I give myself a simple challenge.

I do my age in consecutive pushups.

Not throughout the day.

Not broken into sets.

Consecutively.

This year, that number is 63.

And I will tell you, every year it gets a little harder.

Especially this year.

I have been dealing with a nagging shoulder injury, and there were plenty of moments when I wondered if this was the year I would come up short.

But here’s the thing.

Goals are not only about achieving them.

They are about setting them.

They are about having something in front of you that forces you to prepare, focus, work, and push yourself beyond what would otherwise be comfortable.

If I had only done 60, would I have been disappointed?

Absolutely.

But I also would have known I did not just show up.

I worked toward it.

I committed to it.

I set a standard for myself and chased it.

The fact that I hit 63 was satisfying.

But honestly?

It mostly made me think about doing it again next year.

Thankfully, I have some time to get ready for that.
