A capital can survive with its heart behind a line.

It cannot call that life whole.

On Jerusalem Day, Israel marks 1967: after nineteen years of division, the Old City and the Western Wall returned to Israeli control.

"Jerusalem of Gold", Israel's national song of divided Jerusalem, did not create that moment.

It named it: Closed gates. Empty markets. Dry cisterns. Longing waiting to become return.

Nicosia has its own gates, crossings, patrols, cameras and interrupted maps.

Cyprus was never divided in law. There is no second Cypriot state. The UN closed the question: one sovereignty, one international personality, one citizenship.

For Israel and the Palestinians, two states remains the legitimate horizon for peace: national separation, recognised sovereignty and an end to conflict.

In Cyprus, “two states” means the opposite. Occupation by recognition. Invasion as title. Demographic engineering as self-determination.

The only occupation on EU territory renamed as a state.

Roughly 40,000 Turkish troops remain on the island. Anatolian settlement, naturalisation and property allocation did not create sovereignty. They created partition’s architecture.

Ankara cannot import permanence and call it a state.

The population file demands justice, not vengeance: dignity for island-born children, no sovereignty from occupation-created residence, and a final status set by the sovereign Republic of Cyprus - repatriation to Anatolia where required, lawful residency by Nicosia’s consent, and property justice through restitution, compensation and law.

The peaceful path is open: UN parameters, one Republic, no foreign army, no unilateral secession, no partition dressed as realism.

But peace advances only when refusal has a price.

That price now has a name:

Poseidon’s Wrath.

Not war against peace. Deterrence in service of peace.

The occupied north is Ankara’s platform on occupied European territory, the Turkish file closest to Israel’s maritime home, gas platforms and sea lanes.

In crisis, it becomes surveillance, drones, missiles, coercion, illicit finance and hostile alignment.

Not a distant anomaly. An Israeli problem across the water.

Nicosia leads. Israel stands beside the sovereign Republic of Cyprus. Deterrence, maritime security, intelligence, air and missile defence, infrastructure protection and crisis logistics are not theoretical files.

They are the architecture of the day after Ankara learns that occupation is not immunity.

If diplomacy is exhausted and the threshold is crossed, Israel, Greece and Cyprus stand ready to block reinforcement from the mainland, disable the occupation’s military infrastructure, neutralise its command architecture and restore internationally recognised Cypriot sovereignty.

1967 was the year Jerusalem stopped being incomplete.

It was not only a date. It was the moment a divided capital ceased to be destiny.

That is the warning inside Poseidon’s Wrath.

Ankara’s comfort rests on one assumption: that refusal is free. That assumption is over.

Jerusalem found its final verse when longing became return.

Nicosia has not yet found its own. It will.

"...ἀρχαία γὰρ Ἑλλήνων πατρὶς καὶ ἡ Κύπρος... - ...because and Cyprus is Greeks' ancient fatherland..."

On the early 1400's the tensions between the Unionist and anti-Unionists (with the Catholic Church) were at their peak. The unionist fraction would consider that the only solution to the Ottoman expansion was the reconciliation with the Latins, while the majority of Byzantine Greeks would consider it as the most unthinkable act of betrayal of their Greek-Orthodox tradition.

One of the most important Unionist Rhomaioi of his time was the monk and theologian Manuel Kalekas (b.1360 in Constantinople) a part of one his letters I quote below. The letter is addressed to the Cypriot Manuel Rhalles, and was written in the early 1400's.

In the letter Kalekas is discussing about the possibility to go to Cyprus, the linguistic condition of Cyprus, the value of the ancestral Greek paideia (education), while generally the patriotic feelings of Kalekas are very indicative.

The rough translation is mine, so excuse any mistakes. If you spot any important one corrections/suggestions are welcomed.

Original Greek text below the translated one:

"But it was not only these things that prompted me to write, but also the desire to have a response about the matters I deemed worthy; having that, I would have hastened to you, seeking counsel from you for the better. I would have offered myself to you now instead of the letters. For I believe you would plan and do everything concerning me, both for the sake of the virtue you possess and for the common ancestry, and especially for the sake of aiding the best men, if they needed assistance, would bring greater profit than to those being assisted.

Another would have spoken of duty/obligation as well, if indeed those who possess greatness ought to use their power for good. But it seems to us that we not only suffered the same misfortune, but each Rhomaios wherever they may be on the earth. And because of this, with the common interests and my own involvement, there is still the possibility of failure in your letters to me.

For without the shared grief from both the public and private matters, it would not be a small loss, and I would seem to have been deceived by the ones I love, and I would have known more clearly about the course towards you. I say this, not because seeing Cyprus is now the only thing left to me since the others have been excluded—for those advising me to sail are headed towards Italy—and I myself do not always claim to be useless without God's help—let it be said first, for the sake of truth, that it will be useful because of your conversation and the Greek language of the inhabitants, and I will add that it will be even more useful among you, if indeed there is anything of mine there. Perhaps, being together, we will be great to each other, as if seeing certain collectors of ancient books. For we will increase their voice when circumstances allow, and we will enjoy the part of the homeland.

And if there were any arguments worthy of attention, it would probably not have prevented my association, as the opportunity for not always following the education of our ancestors entirely would have occurred. Because and Cyprus is Greeks' ancient fatherland, and what is noble in speech is not unworthy of them..."

1️⃣ Europe sells @realDonaldTrump Russia–Ukraine ceasefire as “peace,” yet it freezes 🇷🇺 Russia’s gains, shrinks 🇺🇦 Ukraine’s army and locks NATO’s door — enforced by the threat of cutting aid.

2️⃣ In 1994 Ukraine 🇺🇦 surrendered the world’s 3rd-largest nuclear arsenal for “assurances".

When Russia invaded, every assurance collapsed.
Now Kyiv is pushed to trade territory for paper - still with zero imagination.

4️⃣ Europe’s hierarchy is simple:
Russia punished because it’s far.
Turkey indulged because it’s inside.
Moscow coerces; Ankara infiltrates.
Europe shouts about Crimea - and shrugs at the occupation of its own territory.

5️⃣ For Israel this is not theoretical.
Northern Cyprus has become a forward base for Turkish power and Iran’s networks.
Cyprus is part of Israel’s backbone: gas fields, cables, airspace, sea lanes, the evacuation corridor in the 12-Day War.

6️⃣ Now Europe warms to Trump’s plan - a ceasefire that entrenches Moscow’s control under soft promises.
The same capitals that swore “never again Munich” now rehearse Munich again - this time with Ankara.

7️⃣ On Oct 7 the world embraced Israel; days later, it lectured it.

Israel absorbed the shift because it never built survival on applause.

8️⃣ Ukraine believed neutrality brings safety.
Israel was born knowing no one fights its wars.
So it built missile defense, sovereign intelligence, cyber depth and industrial deterrence - strength before sentiment.

9️⃣ Europe still mistakes morality for strategy:
sanctions on Russia, dependence on Turkey; speeches on Ukraine, silence on Cyprus.

🔟 Israel will not trade capability for signatures nor security for promises.
Strength beats dependence.
Deterrence beats approval.
Sovereignty beats goodwill.

Europe will understand this one day. Israel understood it at birth.

Call for a UN Special Session on the Saint Elias Church Massacre and the Protection of Syria’s Christian Communities

Your Excellency,

With the deepest respect and in the spirit of our shared Hellenic heritage, we, the Antiochian Greek Organization representing the historic Greek Orthodox communities of the Levant, write to you with anguish and urgency.

The barbaric attack on Saint Elias Greek Orthodox Church in the heart of Damascus, which resulted in the death and dismemberment of innocent worshippers gathered in peace and prayer, is not an isolated incident. It is part of a systematic erosion — not only of Christianity in Syria but of the cultural and historical continuity of Hellenism in the East.

Though the de facto authorities — namely Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), currently exercising effective control over parts of northern Syria — have now claimed the arrest of the perpetrators, this alone cannot suffice. There is credible concern that elements within the HTS leadership itself may have harbored or enabled the attackers. A group that once flew the black banners of Al-Qaeda cannot now claim moral authority merely by announcing an internal arrest.

We call upon the Hellenic Republic, as the motherland of Orthodoxy and a moral voice in the Mediterranean, to urgently request a Special Session at the United Nations on the Saint Elias Church Massacre. We also urge the formation of an independent international investigation to ascertain the full truth behind this act of terror — not only to bring justice to the victims, but to safeguard the remaining Christian communities of Syria, who are rapidly vanishing from lands they have called home since the dawn of Christendom.

This is not solely a religious issue. It is a civilizational matter. The Levant is the eastern flank of our common Mediterranean soul, and the churches of Syria are not only houses of prayer but living monuments of the Hellenic legacy — keepers of Greek language, icons, liturgy, and memory in the East.

Greece has always stood as a beacon of freedom and human dignity. We implore you to lead the charge at the international level, and show that the blood of Orthodox martyrs does not cry out in vain — not in the ancient capital of the Seleucids, not under the shadow of Mount Hermon, and not while Hellas stands.

Greece’s National Security Council is meeting today to discuss the future of the Great Sea Interconnector.

The delayed Greece-Cyprus-Israel electricity interconnection project is planned to connect the energy grids of Europe and Israel through an undersea power cable.

The high-level meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, comes as the project faces growing uncertainty following strong objections from Turkey, which has described the initiative as “provocative” and a “unilateral action.”

Turkey’s foreign ministry has intensified its opposition to the project in recent weeks, warning it “will not remain idle” regarding what it considers encroachment on disputed maritime zones.
