Created in celebration of Quake's 30th anniversary, a new free episode, Dawn of the Machine, is available now!
Building on @MachineGames' acclaimed work on Dimension of the Machine and Dimension of the Past, it delivers ferocious combat, labyrinthine level design, and nightmarish new realms to explore.
We just released a brand-new free episode for @Quake (Enhanced), Dawn of the Machine, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of a game that means so much to everyone at our studio. Available now!
In it, Ranger finds himself trapped in a dimension of endless illusion and must track down the mysterious Nightmare Machine to finally break free. Along the way, players will shift between dimensions, uncover hidden secrets, and face unpredictable encounters where reality itself is constantly changing. We hope you'll have as much fun playing it as we did making it!
@AndrewHulshult One of my favorite remixes, absolutely crushing tones in this. I hope it's okay if I ask, but what's your bass processing chain? I love how it sounds.
I came up with the Ion Maiden name as the name of one Bombshell's weapons. The band name never entered my mind, I was thinking of the torture device.
But when @IronMaiden turned this into a legal matter, it showed me how utterly stupid the band was. For one, the game had nothing to do with their band/image/music/etc. So right off, it's a sad, petty lawsuit.
But, it also showed me how dumb they are at business. Why not contact us and try to turn this into a mutually beneficial business deal, where we include one of their songs in the game and give them a slice of the game's revs? Instead, they reacted the wrong way and immediately tried to bully us (by us, I mean the Danish version of 3D Realms, and I was a consultant for them during this time).
I suspect the band members themselves never even knew anything about any of this, and it their dumbass attorneys running the show--and we all know attorneys have absolutely zero business sense. Oh well, old news now.
I'm heartbroken to hear about the Microsoft layoffs that have hit id Software. This triology of Doom has been incredible and wouldn't have been possible without these talented people. If you need some incredibly talented folks on your team, I have linked who I can so far below...
Thanks everyone for the kind words!
Here are some of the characters I was fortunate enough to work on at id over 12 years.
Bittersweet for the DLC to drop today (Please support it!) but still grateful to have been able to finish the trilogy.
Gamesbeat: "The cuts came as id’s team was toying with different game ideas including a John Wick-style original game called Fury; a new game in the Perfect Dark franchise; and a multiplayer/co-op version of Doom. It’s not clear which game, if any, the remaining team can do." https://t.co/xjsTSlNnFe
I truly don't think Microsofts executive division was informed on the cuts they made that well. Asking for more games...faster... that use the idtech engine and then axing a large portion of the team that works on that engine is a incredibly confusing and frustrating decision.
A tweet is not sufficient to express how awful the Id news is.
You guys made the past decade a dream for FPS fans. Thank you so much for everything you did.
"Yeah we know he created the visual design for much of the new Doom trilogy since 2016 but eh we think ChatGPT can do better."
Sorry, I'm salty today. This industry is so frustrating.
Bizarre for Microsoft to be like “we’re focusing on Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein” and then gut half the studio that created these IPs.
And super sad on the eve of The Dark Ages expansion, a moment that should be exciting for the team.
