Unpaid labor my ass…the free tuition and perks athletes get are top tier. 99% of college athletes never turn professional and are honestly there as a student first, athlete second. I’d rather kids who felt opposite just not go to college and create some minor league system for them to play in that nobody would watch.
@Deb54352200@pokernutzMJ@em_Lazzy Are you saying 800 die annually in the US? That is an insanely low stat and is a testament to how safe childbirth is now. Those sweet souls who died are tragic and unfortunate- but that is not some indictment considering hundreds of thousands used to die just decades ago
The poverty thing is such a tiresome argument. People today are wealthier and live in better conditions than literally every single human before us. 150 years ago, people were living without AC, taking a dump in a hole in the ground, and eating boiled raccoon. Life was existentially more difficult back then - at a time when women died of childbirth at alarming rates, yet we bred like rabbits compared to today.
This has nothing to do with having a say on a woman’s body, rather it’s about the life of a baby…the fact that society has somehow justified that is reprehensible. I’m empathetic to many of your points…but none of that justifies killing a baby (at least after 8 weeks when there is a heartbeat and brain activity - which is morally quantifiable with human life).
I imagine future civilization will look back at what we are doing now worse than how we look back on slavery now
@Deb54352200@pokernutzMJ@em_Lazzy Lmao - or maybe there can just be some ownership and responsibility. Between condoms, IUDs, the morning after pill etc, there are plenty of ways to prevent a pregnancy that is unwanted
@masonhockey77@GoreloRuth98405@em_Lazzy If you honestly believe every abortion conducted now would result in that you are sorely mistaken. It has and would happen - but you are talking about extremely rare events
The difference being Sarah’s death was caused by one evil person who is being held accountable for their act.
This recent death is a result of years of government leftist policy that has turned a blind eye to brown violence, while perpetuating the narrative that white English men are colonizers and should be looked down upon.
That’s a red herring - less than 1% of all abortions occur due to rape and incest…while I do not believe the life of the child should be ended because of the sins of the father, I am sympathetic to the emotional harm of these events. But, even if I were to concede those edge cases, it’s not like you would concede the other 99.4% of abortions that are performed out of convenience.
As far as your first comment, unborn does not mean not alive. That baby, after 8 weeks has a heartbeat, brain activity, and pain receptors and is very much alive. As such, it deserves as much, if not more rights than the mother, as it has no other defense.
The baby’s head popping out of the birth canal is not some transformative event in development - the baby is the same 5 minutes after birth as it was 5 minutes prior to birth and deserves all of the protection any other living person is afforded.
@masonhockey77@GoreloRuth98405@em_Lazzy Back alley abortions and the dangers of them doesn’t mean we should just throw up our hands and accept the murder of 1.1 - 1.3 million abortions in the US every year.
@Deb54352200@pokernutzMJ@em_Lazzy Women’s healthcare is a cute term that was made up to not make people feel so bad for literally killing a baby. As far as your line about not caring about them…that’s not a rational justification for ending a life…
@stelzner_n1150 The guy who couldn’t stand in front of a podium for 1 hour without wilting and got lost leaving every stage he walked off of was in better shape than the guy who gives 3 hour speeches and plays 18-holes weekly?! You’re delusional
@GoreloRuth98405@em_Lazzy Trying to equivocate the prohibition of alcohol and drugs to what amounts to the killing of a human life is a rather wild take
@pokernutzMJ@em_Lazzy So science is wrong that a baby, with brain activity and a heart beat and ~8 weeks is not a living being? That baby is very much alive and begins forming pain receptors at 7-8 weeks as well.
That’s a morally flawed argument that doesn’t hold up to other legal standards in the US as I stated before. Viability just means the baby can live outside the womb…but there are numerous instances where people are not viable outside of life support or any other aid/device. That viability doesn’t make the baby worthy of any less rights…in fact it’s a rather disgusting way to view the world. There’s not some magic thing that happens at the point of viability that changes what that baby is
