This story always reminds me of something we discovered with my cousin when we were teenagers. We lived in a small village in Bulgaria and somehow noticed that the landline telephones in the village worked differently than other landlines in the country. Basically the phone station at the village was quite archaic and when someone called your phone, the station would detect that it was picked up by the difference in the electric signal. So once that signal difference was detected the station will say "ok the phone picked up, now charge the caller". So what we did was construct a small device that will simply keep the electric signal steady even if someone picked the phone. That way, whoever called us would talk for free. The downside was the phone on the other side will disconnect after one minute because for them it meant they are ringing for one minute and nobody is picking up. But who cared, our friends would simply redial and so we can talk like this for hours without getting out parents phone bills up. So we installed these devices on mine and his phones but our friends wanted to have them as well so we started selling these devices and I think this was my first entrepreneurial journey. Selling something resembling Blue boxes. Fun times.
