@ylecun@RnaudBertrand Yes, there's definitely a lack of self-confidence. There are many examples of European startups not being viewed as legitimate until a U.S. investor steps in. Only then do they start being talked about.
@TimSweeneyEpic Great result @TimSweeneyEpic — a win for developers' rights. I'm part of a joint EU action concerning app store restrictions as well. It's encouraging to see progress in the U.S. — would Epic be open to a conversation about coordinating efforts across regions?
@Hockman9797@oguzerkan Historically, breaking up monopolists often led to higher combined valuations for the resulting companies. I could imagine that on their own, Youtube, Waymo, Google Cloud and others could be valued higher than they are under the current company structure.
@jason_kint I understand the intention is to bring Google to the table to negotiate with publishers. However, should they decide to pay the tax instead, where does that money go?
@SkylerforNY While it's not appropriate to for either of them to do it, if Joe did it it would probably be because he IS senile. This isn't Trump being senile, just his style (which I am not endorsing).
While I agree with the idea of cutting government spending, this is reductive. What about rising input costs (potentially caused by tariffs), currency depreciation, labor market tightness, etc?
@micah_erfan Private citizens that own/run companies critical to the future of EV, national security, space exploration will always be able to book 1_1 meetings with world leaders. What they should and shouldn't be able to discuss is a better question IMO.
@0x_ale also important to note the costs of restructucturing. Basically, the cost of failure can be 10x higher in Germany than in the US due to employment laws, etc. This is a big brake on risk capital.
@tahrajirari @ATabarrok To run a search engine, you need users. More users means more data, and more data means better search engine. That is the fundamental feedback loop at work here. When you've been default for 10 years+, competitors have been foreclosed.
@ericfruits Hopefully, Google sharing query data would provide a class of search engines with the same/similar quality search results, but more tailored to specific consumer demands.
