Kamuoyunda "kuyu tipi" olarak bilinen yeni nesil yüksek güvenlikli hapishanelerden Antalya Döşemealtı Yüksek Güvenlikli Hapishanesi'nde tutulan Gürkan Türkoğlu, uygulanan ağır tecrit ve izolasyon koşullarına karşı başlattığı açlık grevinin ardından bulunduğu Antalya Şehir Hastanesi'nde 5 Temmuz 2026 tarihinde yaşamını yitirdi.
