@heymrsbond I'm teary-eyed just reading your post because of my experiences going to students' funerals. You will never forget the deep pain and the wailing payents' cries. Please don't go.
One shift I made in how I approach students who aren’t demonstrating motivation is to avoid jumping to conclusions and instead to ask, “When was the last time this student had a real win in their learning?”
We all need evidence to believe our effort will lead to success.
@heymrsbond It's so true. They're growing up in a completely disordered world and have such a high potential for their own disorders. The adults are not okay either. Adults, take care of your own mental health so you can be open, honest, and ready to receive their honest voices.
@robertkaplinsky My son is so disappointed in his honors LA class as a sophomore. He took honors this year so he would "actually be taught something" because freshman year was a sit down shut up and you'll pass class....but nope....the system is ugly and broken.
@DrKChilds (2/2) 3. Yea, that's Mr. Soandso, that's how he always is, the kids get used to it. It doesn't stop me, but it's stupid.....I just want to scream at them to read a fckin book...
@DrKChilds I look forward to hearing how it goes for you when you address it. So far my experiences of addressing racist, sexist, and inaccurate teachings at the HS level have not been well received. 1. Wtf is a wht woman coming at me with for? 2. But this is how we've always done it. (1/2)
