Joel Kariuki Mwai, 45, was abducted at approximately 1:30 p.m. today Wednesday 18th June 2026 in Mathare Number 10 by unknown individuals who identified themselves as police officers.
He was walking from his shop in Mathare towards his home when he was approached by several men dressed in civilian clothes who claimed to be police officers. Joel is an active politician who has on several occasions contested for the MCA seat in Mabatini Ward.
Witnesses reported that he was forcibly bundled into a double-cab pickup with registration number KBZ 229B.
When residents attempted to intervene and prevent the abduction, the men drew their firearms and threatened them before speeding away with him.
His whereabouts remain unknown.

A security guard has reportedly quit his job after working for five months without receiving his KSh 6,000 salary.
He claims his employer stopped answering his calls, and the only support he received was 2kg of flour, two tins of omena, and 1kg of sugar. Forced by hardship, he sold his belt and later his phone to send something to his wife and children.
After months of struggle, he has chosen to return home.
