@ReadLearnGrow_ Your right sadly many of our fathers now, instead of teaching the depth of the Mariology of the EOTC, they try to minimalize it to immaculate conception or free from sin at the moment of conception. This is just not alright.
Today (7th of the month) is the monthly feast of Saint Abba Giyorgis of Gasecha, one of the greatest scholars in EOTC. He is known for his humility and great love for St Mary. He authored many books incl Se'atat (Liturgy of hours), Mesehafe Mestir (theology) and Arganon.
Today (the 9th) is the monthly feast of Saint Abuna Estinfase Kristos "Breath of Christ", one of the fathers who quietly laid out the spiritual foundations of the Gondarine period, and by extension, Ethiopia.
He is the patron saint of Ethiopia. His Tabot was carried in the Battle of Adwa, and his image appeared in imperial symbols and banners. You can’t claim to love Ethiopia and hate what made Ethiopia, Ethiopia. Saint George is Ethiopia. Our patron saint forever.
Jew-haters: "Jesus came to abolish Judaism and revoke the Mosaic Law"
Jesus: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them" (Matthew 5:17)
@KalaDeeDee The Holy Eucharist in the Church is a fulfillment of the sacrifice for the atonement of sin in Christ, so now Christians eat and drink the body and blood of Christ for salvation. That doesn't mean the law was abandoned or annuled at all.
Unpopular fact:
Jesus never called to abolish the Torah. His Jewish followers never ceased observing the law.
In fact, they decreed that Gentile converts weren't required to follow the full law except a few (Acts 15), while Jewish followers were to continue observing it.
A 17thC illustration shows St. George imprisoned, then rescued by the Virgin Mary as a dove, standing free once more.
Born in Cappadocia (modern Turkey), St. George is also Ethiopia’s patron saint.
Happy St. George’s Day!
@NegedeYehuda I totally get you. But the problem starts within. Why Ethiopian curricula teaches that Christianity comes to Ethiopia during 4thC by Syrians “Fremnataus?”. The church must challenge this teaching bringing the bible as a proof, how the Ethiopian eunuch became baptised….
Icon of the Thirty Martyrs of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and the Eritrean Orthodox Church.
We commemorate the 11th anniversary of their memory..
They received the crown of martyrdom, being slaughtered and shot in Libya at the hands of ISIS in April 2015.
Pray for us.
