The Steering Committee of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) has supported the launch of the process for Ukraine’s accession to the NEA.
The next step will be an assessment mission by the Agency to analyze Ukraine’s nuclear sector, our technical capabilities, and our institutional and legal framework. Based on the results of this mission and subsequent decisions by member states, Ukraine could become the next member of the @OECD_NEA.
I had the honor of addressing the meeting participants and presenting Ukraine’s vision for future cooperation with the Agency. I am grateful to OECD Secretary-General @MathiasCormann and NEA Director-General William Magwood for their support of Ukraine and for facilitating our path toward membership.
Joining the NEA is a significant step toward full @OECD membership, European integration, and the implementation of the highest nuclear safety standards. Future membership will enable Ukraine to participate more actively in the activities of expert committees and working groups, deepen scientific and technical cooperation, and advance research and the training of specialists.
At the same time, Ukraine is prepared to contribute to the Agency’s work. We possess a robust nuclear energy sector, well-developed infrastructure, experienced engineers and scientists, and extensive expertise in the operation and modernization of nuclear power plants, nuclear safety, radioactive waste management, and the development of advanced technologies.
Furthermore, we possess unique experience in operating a nuclear energy system amidst a full-scale war. This experience could prove valuable to the international community regarding crisis preparedness and risk management. Ukraine is ready to undergo the necessary assessment process, fulfill its obligations, and become an active and responsible member of the NEA community.

20 years of #Aid4Trade. What’s next?
On 29 Oct, global leaders will reflect on its impact, evolving trade & development needs & how partnerships can help developing economies realize their trade potential. The joint WTO-@OECD report will be launched.

Under 10% of social spending goes to families with children, with 1 in 8 children across the OECD living in income poverty. Our new report shows spending better beats spending more:
+50% poverty-reducing impact from one extra % of investment in early childhood education.

Teachers are at the heart of every successful education system.
Yet many #OECD countries face teacher shortages, especially in maths, science, disadvantaged communities and remote areas. #OECDEAG 2026 explores the challenge and what governments can do.

Our task is twofold: stay resilient – and grow faster.
That takes credible fiscal plans, anchored inflation expectations, energy security, competitive markets and better skills.

Our Interim Economic Outlook is out. Its title: Weathering Successive Shocks.
The global economy has absorbed the energy shock from the conflict in the Middle East better than expected, but it remains exposed.
Global growth: 2.9% in 2026, 3.0% in 2027, after 3.4% in 2025. 🧵
Energy support must be targeted and temporary.
Only about half of active support measures across 50 countries are targeted. Untargeted support adds to public debt and blunts the incentive to save energy.
Risks are firmly on the downside.
If energy and food prices stay high and financial conditions tighten, our downside scenario takes 0.7 point off global growth in 2027 and adds 1.1 point to inflation.
Inflation is picking up again.
G20 inflation rises to 4.1% this year before easing to 3.6% in 2027. More than half of G20 countries are above target.
The global easing cycle is over: 1 in 3 central banks have raised rates in the past six months.
But the buffers are thinner now.
Oil inventories are down 507 million barrels since February. EU gas storage is at its lowest level for this time of year in more than 15 years.
And energy prices are rising again.
Energy markets adjusted quickly – on both sides.
Extra supply from outside the Gulf and inventory drawdowns filled about half the gap left by lost Gulf oil exports. Lower demand – led by China – did much of the rest.
Small productivity win in Dublin: three institutions, one selfie. 😉
The bigger questions for 🇪🇺, growth & competitiveness, don't fit into one frame quite as easily. Always good to talk them through with friends Christine @Lagarde and @MathiasCormann at informal #ECOFIN. 🇪🇺🇮🇪
I am very pleased to announce that the OECD Council has designated Czechia to chair our 2027 Ministerial Council Meeting.
Congratulations! 🇨🇿
Czechia joined the OECD in December 1995 and has since become one of the most integrated, export-driven economies in Central Europe.
Energy demand is growing fast. Nuclear energy can help meet rising needs and boost energy security.
At #RoadmapsToNewNuclear, co-hosted with the United States (@ENERGY) and the @OECD_NEA, the focus is delivery: investment, supply chains, skills and effective regulation.
