#Balticon59 was amazing! Had such a great weekend. Met amazing people.
However.
The cats I left behind remain displeased. One cat has bestowed forgiveness via snuggles. The other lounges at the foot of the bed like a furry little deity, offering no such grace.
After my keynote at @Gartner_Inc’s conference an attendee told me they’re inspired to make their websites and apps more accessible to disabled people. My favorite kind of inspiration! #GartnerHR
@Maria_Golikova@dieworkwear This makes be nuts too. I buy very few clothes, so I spend more on pieces that I plan on wearing for many years. I’ve become very brand loyal because of how much expensive junk there is out there. It’s very frustrating.
@Callalily57 That too! I don't go by mrs. either, so that would annoy me. Professor ____ is always the safest way to go, though. It's one of those moments that I remember I'm working with young adults who are still learning etiquette.
@Callalily57 OMG! Students, no! Not in higher ed! You seem like a nice and chill person, but higher ed has a lot of very not chill people who get really REALLY snippy about their titles. HUGE faux pas 🥶
@Cooperstreaming I know that I shouldn't be suprised, but somehow I am. Lots of people go for walks midday. It sucks sitting in the office all day. I know that I go for walks during mylunch break. Sometimes I go for an extra stroll if I had a tough appointment.
@caitskirby It also fails to realize that more students with disabilities are making it to college because of the access that is being provided in K-12 and in higher ed.
@caitskirby You don't just show up and get accommodations. You have to provide some kind of documentation and there's a whole process for determining the types of accommodations that would be needed to eliminate barriers.
I sprained my thumb a couple of weeks ago, and haven't been able to play my violin. Today was the day I picked it up again.
As I walked to my practice spot, I twisted my ankle and fell. In a heroic move, I saved the violin and bow! MY ankle not so much.
We did enjoy Barbie a lot! But sadly the closed caption device didn't work and the folks, once again, gave me headphones that made the sound louder and not the audio description.
One day, we're going to walk out of a movie theater and not have to speak to manager. I believe!
Twitter is one of the most blind accessible social media apps. I have no doubt that accessibility will be thrown out the window with this redesign, and this choice of having dark-mode only is just the tip of what I assume will be a very large iceberg of WCAG violations. #a11y
