Nobody talks about the student who came ready to learn, sat through the disruption, said nothing, and fell further behind while every adult in the building focused on the one who made the most noise. She is still waiting for someone to notice she was there, too.
Much of professional development in education is built on the illusion that teaching is more complicated than it truly is.
Instead of simply asking students to read, write, think, and discuss, we bury ourselves in jargon, acronyms, data charts, and endless protocols.
@sarahwizzle87@TheGreenParty Ok. But don't buy and electric car, tablet, mobile phone or use any electricity generated by wind power. That way, you can feel morally absolved of all guilt.
@Statick777@TheGreenParty All very good points. e.g. Spain: in winter, schools open at 8 and work til 6 and do Saturday mornings but in summer only work 8 til 12 and take a 3 months holiday. Is that the sort of thing you'd be open to?
@sarahwizzle87@TheGreenParty Who mentioned child slaves? I didn't. Kids in African mines aren't necessarily slaves. They work to help feed their families. No, it's not right. But it got you the Neodymium & Praseodymium that's in your electric car motor, so in a way you're supporting it.
@Statick777@TheGreenParty I hope so. But the evidence is that the planet will not support our standard of living for 10 billion people. That's going to present challenges. So acting like a princess who cannot work because it's hot needs to be put in perspective.
@ajhuxlee@TheGreenParty And if we don't sort something out, like people going to work when it's hot so they pay taxes, then one day we won't have a healthcare system.
@mattinthekelp If it's all CO2, please explain why Roman Britain, (1st to 4th century AD) was as warm or warmer than it is now. Or did the Historians just get it wrong?
@williamnhutton Earth can viably support around 10 billion people. However, with the western life style everyone seems to aspire to that estimate drops to 2-3 billion. Is this the choice? Live like they do in the third world or allow the population to fall to be able to sustain western living.
@PeterStefanovi2 Do you understand the word "net"?
Do you understand that this could be a really bad thing? It rather depends who left and who arrived.
@bphillipsonMP My school is literally falling down. It has no sports hall or drama studio. Half our classrooms are mobiles. We are making staff redundant. Our last P8=0.71. But can we get any funding for a build? No. Of course not.
Good news for families - every child aged 5-15 in England will travel free on buses this summer, with unlimited journeys, no registration required, and no cost to families.
Our economic plan is the right one. Tackling the cost of living and building a stronger Britain.
@Block305_LFC If you want to control rent, build lots council houses, maintain them to a high standard and keep rent affordable. Market forces will force private landlords to do the same.
Energy: abandon net zero. Drill for oil & gas. Build nuclear power stations.
