Lifelong ambition to improve maths teaching & learning so that everyone can be successful and celebrate their mathematical understanding at all levels.
Ask any adult to name a specific worksheet from high school. They can't.
Ask them to name a project, a performance, a moment when a teacher said something that mattered, and they light up.
We remember experiences, and experiences shape our learning.
I’ve watched countless young, talented teachers leave the profession — not due to a lack of capability, but because they were thrown into unfair classroom management situations and made to feel inadequate.
An unusually profuse flush of water avens in Glendevon. They were historically used in herbal medicine to treat digestive complaints and in folklore were believed to repel evil spirits
Residents and conservationists in Fife are sounding the alarm over plans for a colossal AI data centre monstrosity near Auchtertool. It has been calculated that the AI data centre would use the energy of more than 50% of Scotland's households and guzzle vast quantities of local water supply. No one voted for this.
It is time for the Scottish people to stand up and demand control over their land and resources, pushing back against mega corporation developments that exploit Scottish countryside assets without public consent.
Multinational tech corporations and facilitating governments should never ride roughshod over Scotland's land and natural resources - the people of Scotland themselves should decide this.
When a 600MW hyperscale data centre, consuming more electricity than half of Scotland's homes can be proposed without meaningful public consultation or environmental impact assessment, that is not governance in keeping with Scottish constitutional tradition. It is the opposite.
The people of Fife did not consent to this, and their voices must be heard. That’s direct democracy in action. Finally, if the SNP government really do believe in independent sovereignty for the people of Scotland, let them prove it here, on Scottish soil, for Scottish communities.
Dear housebuilders, why not throw a couple of 1 & 2 bed bungalows into the mix of the mahoosive estates you're building, y'know, for older folk, single folk, folk who don't have/want kids. Try building communities instead of battery farms for breeders.
While Russia wages war against Ukraine and carries out sabotage operations across Europe, Schengen countries issued over 620,000 visas to Russian citizens in 2025.
France, Italy and Spain alone granted 68% of them.
Once inside Schengen, movement across much of Europe is effortless.
This is a massive security vulnerability.
Time to reflect: I’ve lost friends and family and the version of life I once knew. But not myself. Cancer holds up a brutal mirror to relationships as not everyone can cope with watching someone fight for their life every day or even comprehend it. Some people become anchors and others become absences. Thank you to everyone who supports me, it is hugely appreciated 🙂
Finally the last stitch is in, and I can now reveal my latest embroidery. I hope you enjoy… I’m off to stretch and give my hands a rest! 😉🪡🌿🌺
*All completely freehand stitched, no patterns, paint, or guides just plenty of threads.

Got a call on our doorbell from an African chap about buying eggs. Explained to buy them from the honesty box right next to him. He look confused so I rushed to find him. Guy works at the chicken factory and wanted to buy some eggs on his way back from work but was anxious that no one was at the farmhouse.
I found him and then explained the concept of an honesty box. He could not understand how any business can work like this. Basically I told him that most people are honest and I had CCTV which lets me know when I have a customer. Anyone who doesn’t pay I keep a mugshot on my computer and if I see them again they get a talking to.
Not sure exactly where he came from but the fact he rung the doorbell and discussed his concerns he was honest so the system can and does work.
You want to fix education?
Fix #14: Count the administrators in your district. Then count the teachers. Then ask who is in the room with your child.
Let me break down Fix #14.
Pull up your district's organizational chart. Count every assistant superintendent, every director, every coordinator, every specialist, every instructional coach who does not have a classroom. Then count the teachers. Then ask yourself which number has grown faster over the last ten years and which one has not kept pace with what the kids actually need.
What does it mean in practice?
It means every dollar that funds a coordinator of academic services is a dollar that did not fund a teacher, an aide, a reading interventionist, or a classroom library. It means every central office position added is a decision about priorities, and that decision has consequences inside every building in the district. It means the people closest to the kids have the least power and the least resources, and the people furthest from the kids have the most of both.
How does this help kids?
A child is not educated by an organizational chart. She is educated by the person standing in the room with her every day. When we fund the room, staff the room, and support the person in the room, kids learn. When we fund the office instead, kids wait. The bloat at the top does not show up in test scores with a label attached. It shows up as thirty-two kids and no copy paper. It shows up as a teacher buying her own supplies in February. It shows up as the gap between what we say we value and where the money actually goes.
How do we make this happen?
We need district budgets that are transparent and readable by anyone who wants to look. We need school boards that ask hard questions about the ratio of administrators to teachers and demand honest answers. We need communities that understand the difference between a principal who is in the building every day and a director of curriculum alignment who has not been in a classroom in fifteen years. And we need to stop assuming that adding a layer of management above the teachers is the same thing as supporting the teachers. It is not. It is often the opposite.
The goal is not to eliminate every administrator. The goal is to make sure the people closest to the kids are the priority, not an afterthought.

This is a personal slap to Putin. His town, his property, his forum.
Almost worse than hitting the Kremlin.
Parts of Kherson have been set on fire by Russian drones and these drones won’t let the Ukrainian firefighters extinguish the fire.
A personal ask: hit the Kremlin.
I only started paying into my work pension last September I couldn't afford the 9% salary sacrifice and for the last 10 years I hadn't been on secure contracts. Millions are experiencing the same difficulties. Which is why protecting our State pension is important.
