NEWS: Silent Hill f has already sold 1 million copies in just 3 days, a huge milestone for the series🚀
It is the most triumphant return for the series since Team Silent’s first 3 games
✅Most powerful storyline to date
✅One of the best written modern leads
✅Breathtaking world, art style and visuals
✅Twisted boss designs
✅Great puzzles
✅Mind-blowing unique endings
✅Endings/NG+ expand/complete the story
✅Combat is weak, but improves in 2nd half
✅Not souls-like
✅It has no ties to Silent Hill town or cult
✅Evolves from similar themes/concepts
✅Would’ve been better with less combat and a bit more expansive world/unique areas
Overall, it is an outstanding game, which says a lot because after the cancellation of Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills, I had lost all hope for any Silent Hill game to capture my interest.
Silent Hill f establishes equally powerful origins to the story of Alessa and the cult in the original town of Silent Hill, and instead of the Christian-inspired cult of Dahlia, it grows from the mythology of the Fox (which is what I assume is what the “f” stands for), the Kyubi and ancient Japanese folklore/gods, which works quite well for the character, town, story and fog phenomenon.
It would be amazing if future installments further expand on the reasoning behind the fog phenomenon and what unites it with the original town.
The game’s strongest points are the puzzles, exploration, world building and storytelling. Combat isn’t bad, but isn’t well-thought out. It gets slightly better as you progress and it isn’t very challenging nor souls-like, but the game overall could’ve used much less combat and more emphasis on exploration, and perhaps 2 more unique areas and scenes in the actual town, rather than the otherworld.
The first ending blew me away. It is not your cookie-cutter trauma, revenge and/or acceptance story. It is very unique and makes the lead one of the most memorable modern gaming characters of the last 15 years, and it handles the themes of the era and the struggles of Hinako, a child growing to a young woman in that time, place and culture and surrounded by the mentalities of her time and her own personal circumstances in such a masterful way.
It makes me want Ryukishi07 to be the de facto writer for the series moving forward, regardless of where it’ll be set.
This is true Japanese psychological horror and it makes me feel like I haven’t really played a Silent Hill game since Silent Hill 4: The Room😎 @NeoBards
SILENT HILL f has sold over 1,000,000 copies globally in a matter of days since release!*🌸
