Particle accelerators are mostly known for the enormous colliders that are made to study subatomic particles. However, accelerators are also valuable light sources. In this very first #Physics thread of mine, we will see what are Synchrotron light sources, and their applications.
I've been thinking about it again and again for 2 days already, I'm so excited to know more about the project I've been assigned to and meet so many interesting people ! Feels like a dream becoming true already 😆
@apausa Oh ! Since you seem like being in IT I thought you were part of the OpenLab programme, that's why 😂
I don't really know either myself, I guess all we have to do is to wait for a message from our supervisor ? I guess we had to do anything it would have been written on the mail
That is all for my first thread ! Feel free to correct or ask me a question if anything seems unclear, I'll try my best to answer with the knowledge I have.
Hope you liked it ! :)

These linear synchrotron light sources are also called free-electron lasers (FEL) as the emitted light pulses in a very similar way as a laser does. Finally, small LINACs are used for curing cancer, as modern radiotherapy techniques use them to produce X-rays !
