In Germany, environmentalism became the language through which dependence on Russian gas was justified as a “transition", because the German Greens were the perfect moral camouflage for the old Stasi networks that never disappeared — they only rebranded.

When the Greens demanded the closure of nuclear power plants, they claimed it was for the planet. In reality, each reactor shut down strengthened Gazprom. Every speech about “renewables” masked the fact that wind and solar were not ready to replace baseload energy. The gap was filled by Russian pipelines — Nord Stream I and II — negotiated, financed, and protected by people who had worked with Moscow long before 1989.

Many former East German officials, intelligence intermediaries, and energy executives resurfaced in the post-reunification years as lobbyists and “experts.” They found in the Green movement an ideological vessel to continue the same strategic alignment under a new name. The moral narrative of pacifism and ecology replaced socialist rhetoric, but the outcome was identical: subordination to Russian influence under the pretext of “peace” and “sustainability.”

The result was a masterpiece of infiltration. Germany’s conscience became Moscow’s weapon. The country that prided itself on being post-national and pacifist ended up financing the Kremlin’s wars — all in the name of green virtue.
