Matlock CLT is attempting to purchase a car park & plot of land off Cavendish Road in Matlock to retain it as a Asset of Community Value, not only as a car park but to provide some affordable housing & allotments. We need funds to help run the admin please https://t.co/efkNDS2MsJ
@bbcemt It’s a shame Matlock fire station don’t look at the entrance to the Cavendish Park estate in the same way and the car park the council have blocked off and sale being denied to @MatlockBankCLT which would elevate the problem!
Even with me pushing for the old Studley community centre to remain as a community asset and be used by local youth groups as a community centre, from the moment I became a county councillor the Reform led county council have decided to just auction it off.
I am apoplectic.
Renting it to local community groups would have kept income over many years but instead they want a one off payment for some reason.
Removing community assets while making short term financial decisions. . . I'm glad I left @reformparty_uk more and more, Because this is shameful.

So far 108 have responded to our traffic & road safety survey.
The results are in! 94% things have deteriorated since the car park closure75% witnessed bus or large vehicle unable to get through! 18% actually witnessed an accident 98% think re opening the car park would improve
With regard to Cavendish Road car park “Councils can dispose of land "for less than the best consideration that can reasonably be obtained" without needing consent from the secretary of state if the value is £2m or below.”
Closing the car park has caused all sorts of problems for pedestrians. Around 35 cars have been displaced & they have literally nowhere to go. Coupled with a pavement width which can’t comply with current standards, this closure of the car park has had serious knock on effects.
We want to hear about experiences as users of Cavendish & surrounding roads. We’re not focused on pot holes! But would like to know how you fare as regular road & pavement users

CLTs across England are already revitalising our failing high streets, bringing real community wealth and cohesion - but their successes have been hard won. This new Community Right to Buy could make their path to community ownership and agency much easier - a real win!
Insights from our Community Housing Fund review will form part of our campaigning for new funding so CLTs can deliver homes that:
- bolster national affordable housing goals - often in underserved places
- often get more public support
- generate community wealth and cohesion
This is incredibly disappointing.
We cannot build enough social homes as a by-product of private development - even if 1.5m over 5 years is achieved. More social housing grant is needed - it is great capital investment, pays for itself, and will save revenue spending as well.
I'd add that at @CommLandTrusts we have found the current planning system now adds more than £10k to the cost of each home on small affordable housing projects, often more than the land!
Something that regularly crops up with @CommLandTrusts projects is the aspiration to build #lowcarbon as well as #affordablehousing
Watch this space with plans in the pipeline for our collaboration with @YCEnergy & @loficoho to deliver community owned renewable energy 😀

We were so disappointed to hear @Keir_Starmer on @BBCPanorama how he would treat communities in planning reforms as enemies with disrepect and disdain. Does @UKLabour really support the volume housebuilders over local people?
