Honoured to have H.E. Vice President @jessica_alupo, who has represented H.E. @KagutaMuseveni as Chief Guest at the Buyer's Week.
She has toured the Marketplace, interacted with Ugandan exporters, and witnessed firsthand the quality, innovation and competitiveness of Uganda’s products destined for regional and global markets.
The buyers’ week is an opportunity to highlight Uganda’s strategic advantage as a gateway to East and Central Africa.
"I urge the international buyers present to consider Ugandan suppliers to deliver your orders; I urge our exporters strive to meet the international standards and packaging for success. To the investors, Uganda is open for partnerships." the President said in his message.
President @KagutaMuseveni:
"The main focus of this week is to consolidate the efforts aimed at turning interest into actual orders; and orders into enduring partnerships, that can result in jobs and incomes for our people. It's an opportunity to highlight Uganda’s strategic advantage as a gateway to East and Central Africa."
H.E. @MeneWamkele, SG @AfCFTA has virtually delivered a Keynote on Africa’s shared opportunity under AfCFTA, highlighting Uganda’s readiness to lead through quality products, strategic partnerships, and expanding market access.
He emphasized that Uganda’s exporters now have unprecedented opportunities to scale across Africa with fewer barriers and more predictable trade frameworks.
Why must a Ugandan need a visa to enter Nigeria, DR Congo, or any part of our continent? If we want enterprises to grow, Africa has to treat itself as one market.
When we integrate our logistics by water, land, and air, and when the private sector speaks with a united voice, governments respond. The African Continental Free Trade Area will only work if we deliberately remove the obstacles that slow down movement, production, and opportunity.
I want to thank the Minister of State for Trade, Hon. Gen. Wilson Mbadi, for always standing with PACEID and for championing the AfCFTA agenda across the continent. His consistency and clarity have helped keep market integration high on the national and regional conversation.
Africa’s future will not be built through isolation. It will be shaped by how boldly we open up to one another.

I commend @paceidug for their continued collaboration with @mtic_uganda to drive the trade agenda. We seek to broaden markets for our products & position Uganda as a regional trade hub. Trade is central to our national development aspirations.- Gen Wilson Mbadi.
📌 Speke Resort Munyonyo: Uganda Connect International Buyers Week
Day 2 of the Uganda Connect Buyers Week reminded us why this platform matters.
We saw exporters and international buyers sit together to turn interest into real orders and partnerships that can last.
Today, our focus is on deals, on connecting, and on the quiet but important work of networking the kind that widens Uganda’s place in global value chains and gives our young people room to grow, trade and build.

Last evening, Hon. @dbahati closed Day 3 of #UgandaConnect International Buyers Week, marking a successful day of trade commitments, partnerships and concrete business deals.
He reassured international buyers of Uganda’s commitment to global trade. “Uganda is prepared to export, all we need are contracts.”
The Marketplace & Deal Room sessions demonstrated Uganda’s readiness to scale globally, with buyers engaging directly with exporters to negotiate terms, verify product quality and explore long-term partnerships.
The day also featured a Standards & Compliance Panel with @UNBSug & @MAAIF_Uganda, emphasising traceability, certification, and market-specific requirements.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the long wait is over. Tune in to 91.3 @CapitalFMUganda tomorrow Saturday 3rd May 2025 10Am- 12:00pm as @Odrek_Rwabwogo goes live to discuss ; "Growing Uganda's exports ton by ton and how to navigate new US taxes and keep growing its Exports".
Don't miss the insightful conversation 👌.
During the thanksgiving celebration of his friend Kayemba Patrick in Iganga today, Chairman @Odrek_Rwabwogo tipped residents on household income generation. He urged them to unite under product-based consortiums while taking advantage of programs like PDM and Emyooga to support small businesses & create more jobs for youths.
He took a moment to thank God for the recovery of Kayemba, who suffered a stroke in 2023.
Uganda has today officially joined @afreximbank's Funds for Export Development in Africa (FEDA) as the 21st member state, an Initiative that aims to boost intra-African trade and promote economic growth.
At the official signing ceremony of the FEDA Accession Instruments at @UgandaMFA this morning, our Chairman @Odrek_Rwabwogo hailed FEDA as a game-changer in the region's trade landscape. He expressed his optimism for this momentous step towards further integrating the continent's economies.
He highlighted the importance of trade as a bridge between Uganda and other African countries like Nigeria, emphasizing the need for facilitation of trade.
"Our (@paceidug) target is USD 6bn, but in 30 years we aim at USD 100bn worth of exports. We cannot get that money unless we have FEDA and industrial parks, not the type we have. Aggregation parks where we can deal in primary production, processing, handling market, transportation so that sesame from Amuru is delivered to Dubai in the right quantity, at the right time with the right equipment between the final farm and the final consumer."

In today's global economy, the success of a country's exports and industrial development depends greatly on its ability to establish robust trade partnerships and maintain strong relations with its regional allies. This is why we paid a courtesy visit to H.E. John Shama Shaga, the Head of Mission at the Nigeria High Commission in Uganda.
The visit aims to strengthen regional trade and relations between the two countries, under the recently implemented @AfCFTA protocols, in which both Uganda and Nigeria are committed partners.
Discussions centered on the important aspects of exports, skills-sharing, AfCFTA and the potential of Guided Trade Initiative (GTI), which would provide a framework for systematic and mutually beneficial trade between the two countries.
Our Chairman @Odrek_Rwabwogo has expressed his appreciation for the Nigerian market, considering it is the largest in Africa.
Botswana holds some good lessons for the Ugandan mining and beef sector. With only diamonds, they seem to have built a USD6.7bn industry and high revenue earner.
With Uganda growing its gold sales in ten years from a mere USD35m to now USD3.5bn (more than 1000% growth), the industry is still weak and almost non-existent if it weren’t for the President’s insistence on minimum refining of this product in the country!
We miss integration in electronics, medical devices, and the gold reserves' full monetization to get better positioning and pricing. It is the same with the beef and cattle sector in Uganda.
With slightly over 3m heads of cattle, Botswana earns over USD100m in beef exports and has a thriving veterinary industry punching above the weight of Uganda at 16m heads of cattle. We spent the better half of a day with the business leaders and export agencies of Botswana to pick some lessons we could apply as a country.
I thank Honorary counsel Ms. Maria Odida and Amb Paul Amoru, our High commissioner in South Africa for putting this together. We will develop this relationship if we can deal with cheaper logistics and transportation to this market
Ambassador John Shama Shaga is remarkable for his warmth and conviction about trade between Uganda and Nigeria.
We met at his offices today and agreed on working to activate the Guided Trade Initiative (GTI), a first step to learning how to trade under the AFCTA,
scrutinizing our old bilateral agreements and putting them to work and a renewed focus on cargo and passenger traffic between our two countries.
I didn’t know the kanga fabric women buy from Nigeria called ‘Adire-atampa” is also referred to as “Kampala in Nigeria” because of the long history of its trade between the two countries. Our team will pick up the issues we discussed today and prepare for a trade Hub in Lagos.
Today, together with Kleber Group, we held a one day tourism stakeholder workshop in Kampala at Four Points by Sheraton Hotel aimed at improving How to Sell to and Improve Tourist Arrivals from the important German-
speaking source market.
Tourism is one of the 13 key exports identified to achieve the target of
$ 6BN in export revenue by 2028, contributing $1BN.
International travel to Uganda is one of the best levers for driving economic growth and job creation.
During her presentation, Hanna Kleber, founder of the Kleber Group, a German-based consulting firm specializing in travel and leisure marketing to the German-speaking market, highlighted the key drivers and barriers behind attracting inbound arrivals, specifically through charters.
Our Chairman, @Odrek_Rwabwogo has tasked Kleber Group with the crucial responsibility of repairing the country's tourism sector by working towards establishing charters directly from Germany to Uganda.
Congratulations to Avotein Farms Ltd upon successfully shipping out the first consignment of Ugandan avocados to Europe by sea.
After 42 days, the shipment arrived in Spain, marking a significant triumph for the company and the Ugandan agricultural sector as a whole.
This achievement underscores the country's growing efforts to diversify its export markets and expand its logistics options.
It showcases the potential of Ugandan farmers and producers to compete on a global scale and deliver exceptional products to discerning consumers worldwide.
Returning to MAKERERE University has emotional and youth undertones in my mind.
Here I made my first friends outside the small community where I came from, my views about the world, the landscape called politics, understanding relationships, studying the economy, and knowing the pitfalls of how to organize - all these areas of my life shifted rapidly.
Here I had a very close shave with death with both Tom Onyango and Okema shot by police within inches of where I was standing in October 1990;
Here I fell over a ditch in the night on a vigil to oppose shallow demonstrations over ‘boom’ money for students instead of stocking the library with new books for the students. That night, I was so fortunate I didn’t land on sharp iron pikes on a construction site in the dark; I broke my back and survived.
Today, at a session with Professors Nawangwe and Muhwezi of MUBS and several graduates, we set the process for mentorship for the next generation of leaders in the business, public and private sectors. All these thoughts were running in my mind while I spoke.
I am so happy with the work Mr. George Turyamureeba, chairman of the Makerere Convocation Committee, and his team have done well to give the alumni a home. This will be used for planning and executing good ideas to keep MAKERERE growing each generation.

This season, we reflect on our achievements and look forward to new opportunities.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas filled with joy and a New Year of continued success. Thank you for your invaluable partnership in our export initiatives.
Let’s Together Grow Uganda’s Exports.
Earlier today, @paceidug launched the Uganda Connect Trade Hub at the Entebbe International Airport. This boosts Uganda's trade potential by showcasing local products to international travellers, promoting exports and supporting local producers, enhancing Uganda's image as a trade-friendly destination, creating market linkages for SMEs and entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Francis Mwebesa emphasised the importance of exports, stating that anyone who exports even one kilogram is considered Uganda’s friend due to the role they play in promoting Uganda’s goods.
The Chairman of @paceidug, Mr. @Odrek_Rwabwogo highlighted the significance of these efforts in achieving larger goals, particularly in the context of Uganda’s presence on the international market. #OpenGovUg
The Uganda Connect hub is a clear declaration that Uganda is present in the global market. The hub, strategically located within the airport, has been fully furnished with a variety of Ugandan value added products; coffee, dairy products, @tookeonline etc
