Controversial take:
Lehi saw the Big Bang and taught Jacob about it in the Book of Mormon.
I’ve posted about this before, and as far as I’m aware, I’ve never seen this theory expounded on. Here are the receipts:

Your definition of “potential threat” is someone who hasn’t completed youth training? That seems so naive and silly to me.
Do you have data indicating that shows a connection between abusers and training completion?
The training doesn’t stop abusers. Good men/women and adherence to sound policy will always be best.
Well, I guess there’s three parts. 1) the absence of a commandment shouldn’t *necessarily* be interpreted as approbation 2) my paraphrasing of James 3 about the tongue being a rudder to the soul. Those verses seem pretty explicit to me. 3) modern LDS apostles and prophets have repeatedly condemned it. Elder Hollands talk on “the tongues of angels” is a good example.
I can’t provide you with a specific list of words that we have been charged to reject (see point 1 above) - but I would argue that it’s impossible to read ancient and modern scripture and then feel that swearing, profaning, and vulgarities are acceptable forms of speech.
@DChadwickAuthor@Latterdaytruth The tongue is a rudder to the soul.
“For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant”
You’re saying that someone born in 300 BC China would know Christ exists?
In what sense would they have known? Just a kind of vague sense of right/wrong? If that’s the case, than does it really matter what we believe in this life as long as we’re “good” people - just like the Chinese person from 2300 years ago?
@RobinhoodApp can you confirm whether anyone got the 1 gram gold bar for $20? Got in at the stroke of 6:30 MST. Got into the queue. Said a 9 minute wait. Waited. Got out of the queue and it said “Sold Out”
Seems like most had the same experience.
Guessing demand quickly outstripped supply!
@TheDailyShow I refuse to pretend these two are making a serious and sincere argument.
They just aren’t happy with the republic. It’s functioning as it rightly should. They want activist judges and are willing to blow up the constitution to get some.
@konquistador33@CutWithout So what is the philosophical basis that allows you to hold other people to an arbitrary standard?
Or do you just not care and kind of just float through life without thinking about it?
Allie at least had Jacob Hansen on. That was a great convo - and I think she’s tempered by Beck.
DW does seem to be the only one doing blatantly anti-LDS posts. I actually quite like Matt Fradd - but he clearly views the church both as a threat and antagonistically. It’s unfortunate
@OrigensAdvocate@DChadwickAuthor PragerU?
Blaze Media?
Hillsdale?
Angel Studios (the hubbub around Animal Farm notwithstanding)?
I’ve recently become more of a Michael Knowles fan. Very Catholic and obviously DailyWire - but I’ve only ever hear him be supportive of the members of the church
@TyeCook@johnkonrad I’d wager that both of them were raised in religious households but are completely oblivious to the fact that that is where their moral grounding comes from. They probably think of their morality as existing in SPITE of that. Their kids will be blown about with every wind.
I understand your confusion. Salvation and exaltation are two distinct things. Salvation is nearly universal - Christ’s atonement covers for all but the most intentionally rebellious souls.
Exaltation, however, is different. God allows us to grow and become more like Him precisely to the degree we wish. He does not force it upon us.
The one and true God, the same God we both worship, however fallibly, is much more generous than most any Christian sect allows. We are not here by accident (the Fall) and we are not condemned simply because we failed to learn of Christ in this life.
You don’t understand the theology then. Ya, it’s true that the priesthood authority is required in order for ordinances to have eternal effect, but it’s not OUR priesthood. It’s God’s. And EVERY SINGLE PERSON will have the chance to accept it - whether in this life or the next.
The true and living God is much more merciful than any other Christian faith allows. I hope at some point you’ll listen to the message of the restored Gospel. Regardless, I also hope God blesses you on your chosen path!
Also, by your standard, the Jews of the Old Testament and the Catholic Church are cults. Which would mean that Jesus Christ belonged to a cult during His mortality.
We worry too much about what the Lord will permit and not enough about what He prefers.
Not saying the Lord prefers us clean shaven, but it’s always struck as a “what can I get away with” mindset when we say that we do/don’t have to do something simply because it isn’t explicitly spelt out.
@ThoughtfulSaint I wonder if it ever occurred to Joseph Smith to read the scriptures. Do you think he just didn’t know that infinite regress wasn’t spelt out therefore and that’s why he allowed himself to teach/consider/reason a heretical doctrine?
