🚨LANDFALL: Cyclone #Garance has become one of the very few storms to directly make landfall over Réunion in recorded history, slamming the SW Indian Ocean island tonight with 100+ mph (160+ kph) wind gusts and torrid sheets of rainfall as her rapidly collapsing eye moves onshore E of Saint-Denis. This marks the 6th Hurricane-strength landfall of the 2024-25 SW Indian Ocean Cyclone Season, which has already been cemented as the costliest and possibly even the deadliest season in the basin’s history (mostly due to Cyclone Chido).
