@Racing Another example of how irresponsible the Australian breeding industry is. Time to start breeding for soundness and actually putting animal welfare first.
@carvillshill Lame horses are sent to the races everyday mate. Education from officials is the issue. Stables think if a horse performs to expectation it can’t be lame or the lameness doesn’t matter; and they think a horse that is lame over a long period of time is just their “normal gait”..
@Racing It’s not a trial Ozzie. Your horse is lame. Whether or not your trainer and staff believe the horse is performing well is beside the point. You can’t force a lame horse to race from a welfare standpoint. Just because a horse can win a race lame doesn’t mean it is justified
@carvillshill As for older horses not racing with that approach you would be correct right now. But only because of the way it is governed. If they were strict with enforcing rules then genetics would be selected for soundness and training would be altered to a more forgiving approach
@carvillshill Sorry mate. To clarify, I mean, no horse with a current lameness can race. And currently they all have ongoing issues because the way the rules are being governed is “leave it up to trainers”, so whether they race or not is based on performance not their action.
@MickLynch_Age @theage Agreed. For the first time ever RV are attempting to enforce the actual rules of racing. Equine welfare is paramount. Just because a horse can perform doesn’t mean it should. The scans are not necessary now this instance and should be done privately at owner/trainer discretion.
@bartonequine “With regards to marmelo”.. this means the words you are about to type in your analogy (this is a comparison) is referring to marmelo! After your “analogy”, you finished your tweet with “marmelo, play on”.. just to confirm you were referring to, you guessed it, Marmelo
@JPF1986@EamonVeaney@Rory_Flanagan@JaseRicho@BenAsgariRacing@FlemingtonVRC Being able to work well or even win group 1 races is completely different to being lame. About time they stopped lame horses racing. Just because they can still win doesn’t make it right. Hopefully owners and trainers will start selecting horses based on soundness now
@Mattunchained Equine welfare is the number one priority and will be the reason the industry will cease to exist. Your petty bickering will only hasten it’s demise. Not one person considered that moving Mel cup will have welfare implications relative to other carnivals #headinsand
@jtzaf@Racing Quote of the day goes to Paul preusker - “I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve...” I think everyone is aware but thanks for the reminder #zappfitness
@Jezza_27 @Molanski13 @RSN927 I think the reason behind their thoughts is that if they are saying that weir is I eligible then that means they are saying the winners he had were illegally trained. If that is the case then racing Victoria should be changing results, handing out prizemoney and black type status
@Globalgallop@playwright0@tonywebb_1 I think it is worth discussing it on after the last with Kruger tonight. How can weir be suspended for 4 years for possession of a jigger.. presumably used on any number of horses, & then these same horses are allowed to compete against other horses that have been trained legally
@NickDalSanto to solve players leaving under contract clubs should put in a clause that if they break contract the player is required to pay out the club remaining salary or similar
@traderadio@sam_mcclure is there any way the cats can increase tim Kelly salary next year into top 25% of their paid players so next year he becomes a a free agent and Geelong will be eligible for compo pick when he leaves?
