As a gen x'r, it doesn't surprise me at all that the boomers would feel this way. Im the generation that the media was trying to protect when they had to ask these people if they knew where their children were every night at 10pm. We're the generation caught between the boomers and, in this case, their grandkids. Boomers by and large have always been preoccupied by prioritizing their own lives over anyone else including their own children, why not their grandkids even more? There are some that weren't that way, and being a latch key kid was probably the best thing that could have happened to me, but overall, the baby boomers are the "me first generation".
I've been saying this for quite some time now. It's the conservative leaning side of gen x that I think this most closely aligns with. We know how to act. We didnt grow up racist or misogynistic or xenophobic or fascist or Nazi's or homophobic or anything else that these mobs pulling citizens out of their cars and storming churches like to call EVERYONE. We hung out with our friends in the neighborhood. We didnt always get along. We had fights and we got over it. We didnt care what you looked like or what your political leanings were. We just wanted to know if you could catch a ball. And if what the girl down the street said meant she "liked" us or if she "LIKED" us. We listened to all different types of music. We made fun of our black friends and they made fun of us. And we all laughed. We understood borders. Like the borders of our neighborhood. If you were inside of those borders, you were our people. And we acted like you were our people. We stood up for people that were smaller than us. We were left alone our whole lives and became known as the forgotten generation because of it. So we grew thick skin and became self sufficient. In our adult life, we went to work and started families and we just wanted to continue to be left alone. And large groups of the other generations are continuing to poke and poke and poke. Baby boomer leadership on both sides of the aisle, with progressive and conservative beliefs, all contributed to this mess. They've been lying to all of us. To get and maintain power. Which is the real currency of the world. Yet the boomers that were a part of it and are still at it, don't think, or won't admit, that they had any part of creating the crap storm that we have now. Many within the younger generations (millenials and the rest), think they're the smartest people in the room on every subject. When, in the grand scheme of things, they've only been on the scene for like 5 minutes, have little to no life experience, and are the most confused generations in all of history. They have a hard time getting a drivers license and they're so socially inept they need encouragement to order at a drive through. From what I see, it seems that the younger gen z crowd have some members whose eyes are open to the charade. I hope so. Regardless, all most of us gen x kids wanted, was to be left alone. And now we can't. Now we have to keep getting more and more involved. If this keeps up, the new meaning for the word "woke" is going to refer to the awakening that's coming from a certain portion of gen x. Nobody is going to like it when that happens. This isn't about politics, race, gender, sexual orientation, country of origin or anything else. This is "old neighborhood" type stuff. If you make a habit out of pulling random people out of their cars for any reason, much less because you think the people inside are "guilty" of being conservative or Christian etc, it won't be long before you stop the wrong car. Unless you're banking on getting that type of reaction because you see it as the path towards whatever re-aligning you think you're trying to accomplish. Either way, unfortunately, I see this getting even uglier unless we all get back to basics. Gen x is REALLY good at this kind of thing. I hate the political divides so I try to stay out of fake ass keyboard battles. I get sucked in from time to time but I try not to. There are a lot of liberal leaning people that I care a great deal about. I think this is the doing of ALL of the politicians and not the people. I think we're all just the pawns in their game and I'm done arguing with my friends and family over fights that leadership started. That said, if someone is pro pulling people out of cars, disrupting church services, destroying random people's property, I'm not willing to invest in those relationships. Which is fine with me.
@StandUpForTrmp Yes please. It's going to make the job much easier moving forward if you all just identify yourselves all at once. This is perfect. Thank you.
@janninereid1 Depends on his age. Under 18 and he's grounded. Or losing the car i bought him that he used to put himself in that situation. Or he can get out of my house. Over 18, he can do what he wants with his eyes. He's a grown man.
@grok@_1Adex@jonatanpallesen@AriadneTweet@ArtemisConsort@grok that's not true at all. The term "forgetting" in no way implies the sudden loss of memory. Far more people lose their memory or forget things over time. That's almost exclusively how memory works with exceptions of accidental brain damage.
We lost our identity along the way. Somewhere between 1959 and 1993. Why those 2 years? Because the first is the most recent time that the American Empire, which is what we still are despite the best efforts of some, expanded by adding Hawaii as a state. Not really that long ago actually. The second is the year the United States issued an apology to the people of Hawaii. For conquering the island and adding it as a state.
Why? Why did we apologize? Did Hawaii become a hellhole after it was acquired by the U.S.? Are people trying to escape the Hawaiian Islands in makeshift rafts and dying because of it like they do to escape the island of Cuba? Of course not. Because unlike the countries who hate us, and say whatever you want about our country, we don't build walls to keep people in. That's one of the major differences between us and those Communist, Socialist, Muslim ran countries.
When is the last time you came across a scared, hungry, sick, half naked family hiding in a Vegas bathroom saying they're escaping America? Or on a train in Brooklyn? Or In a national park? Or at a state fair in the summer? Or at an open air music festival or a symphony? In the art museum at Forest Park? Where are all the refugees fleeing from America?
After Hawaii became a state it flourished and became a top vacation destination for the world. Sure people were disaffected. But that happens with expansion and exploration. And Americans are born explorers. Its who we are and always have been. When we've outgrown the country we have, we expand into new territory and leverage the resources of that territory to build something even stronger and we win. That's who we've always been. To be ashamed of that fact and apologize for it is to apologize for our existence as a country in the first place. But make no mistake we are a conquering country. Always have been. From the moment we won our own independence.
It doesn't have to mean bloodshed and death. Because that's NOT supposed to be who we are. We spill blood when people try to take from us or hurt our friends. That's who we're supposed to be. We can move past violent conquest and usher in mutual economic growth with any willing partner. There are deals to be made. Or you can murder your own people and we will take you out like in Venezuela. Everyone gets to decide. Its real easy.
We bought half of the continental U.S. from France in the Louisiana purchase. That worked out pretty good. And save me the American Indian lecture. Some of the story is sad. Some not so much. If most of those tribes could have taken over everything they would have. But they couldnt. Just like now.
Theres a whole list of countries that are SEETHING and would love to fly helicopters into Washington DC and forcefully remove the sitting President of the United States, Republican OR Democrat. Don't get it twisted. While we sit on our ever fattening butts arguing about gender bathrooms, they are coming in. They all want what we have. Of course they do. I don't blame them. We have it pretty good all things considered. They might not admit it or at least not say it directly but believe it they do. Why else are they willing to die to get here? Whether coming as an actual refugee or as an undercover operator or gang member hiding with the refugees, they want what you and I have.
It hasn't not happened out of the goodness of their hearts. It hasn't happened because it can't happen. They aren't capable. We're the top dog. It cant happen so much that it sounds ridiculous to say it out loud. That's something to be proud of. We can defend ourselves anytime and anywhere we choose to and we're powerful enough and morally aligned enough to exercise discretion and make smart deals when we try.
Theres a whole list of reasons that it makes sense for the U.S. to control Greenland. Mutual benefits to be had for all parties and people involved. Give me one reason against us working out a deal to control Greenland that "Trumps" (pun intended) the list of reasons we should have control and we can discuss it.
If you just oppose it for the sake of opposing it for whatever reason, then you're telling me you don't understand the American Spirit and you reject and are ashamed of all the blood that was spilled, on every side, to fight for and keep what we currently have. Going all the way back to the beginning. Well i'm not willing to reject that blood. And I'm not ashamed of that. Nobody that died for freedom did so in the hopes that you would be ashamed of them. They did it because they thought what we have is worth fighting for and they did it because they were proud of what we have accomplished up until now and they believed the great experiment wasn't over. I believe it still isn't over. I'm not ashamed of that either.
It takes is leaders to make sound and responsible business decisions and use their checkbooks, trade and common sense instead of using hate, bullets and explosives. And we have to get corruption out. Foreign corruption yes. We're seeing that in Minnesota but that wasn't just Somali corruption. The American NGO's and health insurance companies need to be investigated because somebody helped the Somalis set up the fake businesses. They need to be held responsible also. They sold all of us out. They are traitors. Expansion only works if it is to build up. Not steal, corrupt and tear down.
@NikkiFurrer @calebrowden Not all of us. Conservative white man here. Been in the inner city my entire life. I'm ready to see criminals face consequences and law abiding citizens get their city back.
