Our Executive Director, @NickTroiano, joined the @MattLewisPod to discuss our big idea to fix America’s broken politics: open primaries.
Our political system is broken — there’s no doubt about it. Our incentive structure rewards elected officials for catering only to their base and not the majority of Americans who are in the middle. This was on full display during the longest government shutdown in political history.
But as @mattklewis says, “[Election reform] is the most realistic way to quickly change our incentive structure” and lower polarization.
In fact, we believe that addressing the primary problem is the biggest, solvable problem in our politics today. That’s how we finally break the cycle of division in America.
I don’t think you can understand modern politics and not get gaming (to some extent). With talk of whether video games cause violence, I’m re-upping my conversations with @therealcliffyb and John @romero 👇 cc @RadioFreeTom

I join the @mattklewis podcast. Among other things, we discuss how to do proper pull-ups: chin above bar, full dead hang at bottom, no Marjorie Taylor Greene style using momentum to cheat https://t.co/KdTWcBgU8P via @YouTube
NEW PODCAST! @Jamie_Weinstein

@mattklewis and @chucktodd had a fascinating discussion on dead rail issues of importance for both the serious right and left, and why we never see movement on them.
Here is our thoughts:
Dead rail issues—campaign finance reform, national debt—get all the airtime but none of the action. Why? Because voters don't feel the power to fix them. That’s where representation comes in. Let’s connect the dots. 🧵
The left talks about dark money.
The right talks about runaway spending.
Both are symptoms of the same disease: concentrated power + unaccountable politicians.
The U.S. House hasn’t grown since 1929. Meanwhile, our population has tripled.
That means each rep today "represents" ~750,000 people.
Translation: Your voice? Drowned out.
Who fills the vacuum?
Lobbyists. Special interests. Super PACs.
And yes—big spenders who know how to game the system.
Want to fix the debt?
Want to fix campaign finance?
Start with fixing representation.More seats = smaller districts = more accountability = more room for real people to run—and win.
These aren't third rail issues—they're dead rail issues.
Politicians don’t fear voters on them because the system makes it too hard for voters to matter.🔁 Expand the House. Shrink the districts. Restore representation. That’s the first step to reviving democracy.
That's how we bring the “dead rails” back to life.

I was grinning from ear to ear listening to @AdamKinzinger talking to @mattklewis today. Especially when Adam echoed this sentiment almost verbatim. Wonder how many of us want this?!

This #OpEd by #conservative@MattKLewis is incredibly important!
Time for @GOP to wake up!
@realDonaldTrump "isn’t just spinning some quirky yarn about kids and their overstuffed toy bins. He’s normalizing the consequences of his own bad policies."

A superb #MattLewis interview with Lawrence Rees who discusses how Trump's er, sorry, I mean Hitler's mind worked when he seized power in Germany in January 1933. #TheNaziMind
A shout out to my friend @mattklewis for an engaging conversation--from Trump to GOP crazy to what Republicanism once meant--or so we thought!
