A father said to his son:

“You graduated with honors. Here’s a Volkswagen Beetle I bought many years ago… It’s over 50 years old, but before I give it to you, take it to a downtown dealership and ask them how much they’ll offer you.
”The son went to the dealership, came back and said:
“They offered me $10,000 because it looks very worn out.”

The father replied:
“Now take it to a pawn shop.”
The son went to the pawn shop, returned and said:

Finally, the father told him to take the car to a classic car club.
The son did so, came back and said:

The father then said to his son:
“I wanted you to understand that the right place will value you the right way.
If they don’t appreciate you, don’t get angry... it simply means you’re not in the right place. Those who truly know your worth are the ones who truly value you.

In 2005, Texas homebuilder Gordon Hartman walked away from the business that had made him wealthy.

The decision had been building long before the sale.

Years earlier, while on a family vacation, he watched his daughter Morgan, who has special needs, try to join a group of children playing in a swimming pool. The other children slowly moved away. They weren't being cruel. They simply didn't know how to include her.

That moment stayed with him.

Instead of asking the world to change, he decided to build a place that already had.

Working with parents, therapists, doctors, educators and accessibility experts, Gordon turned that idea into reality. On April 10, 2010, Morgan's Wonderland opened in San Antonio as the world's first ultra accessible theme park where children and adults of every ability could play together.

The project cost around 51 million USD. That figure is often mistaken for the price he sold his company for, but official sources have never confirmed that as the sale amount. What is certain is that he used his fortune and helped raise additional funding to make the park possible.

Guests with special needs are admitted free. Every ride, pathway and playground was designed so no child would have to watch from the sidelines.

One afternoon at a swimming pool inspired an idea.

Today, that idea has welcomed millions of families from around the world and given countless children something every child deserves without needing to ask for it.

A place where they already belong.
