@Brady7Rogers@GhostofSwiftH Explain what the obs fee is? As a buyer I don’t think there is a fee. It’s been a few years for me maybe I forgot or something new?
Hi, There are a lot of hotels not far from the track, can probably google that one. I would take her on a Wednesday or Thursday as those are the least crowded days. Make sure to get some kind of seating. If it’s a day when I’m there and I have a horse running (unlikely this year but not impossible-I’m really cutting back) I would be happy to take you and your mom into the paddock. Let me know if you end up going.
So the verification for Saturday: almost no rain between 12-6 pm. Partial victory this is what I was thinking could save the card. I got that right. Your chart showed continuous rain Saturday, that ended up being wrong. The problem was there was much more rain than expected Thursday into Friday, the heavy bands set up farther east (more in Lex) than I expected. I was wrong overall in saying that Keeneland made a making cancelling. It was a good idea to cancel due to the scope of the flooding in the region. I believe that all races will be off turf Sunday-Tuesday. Sunday also looks like they’ll be more rain during the race card than there would have been today.
Joking aside, It’s a close call it will be bad in western Ky, southern Indiana, Ark, west Tenn….just looks to me to set up bad up there and not crush Lex until later if at all. I saw an opening where Saturday could be ok that’s all. Always safer to move to dry days in theory but how much of that do we want to do.
I forecast weather (see profile) for a living and in a situation like this the NWS forecast is going to be very general where a top weather forecaster can be more specific. Nws forecasts like this give some of us a bad name. Keeneland needs better weather information. NYRA makes these mistakes all the time also. It’s a close call, in Lexington, yes but based on current data it was a mistake to move the card. It’s possible it could move in sooner so I can see the side of being safe but I’m feeling pretty good most of Saturday will be ok in Lex. That’s all just my thoughts. It doesn’t matter now since they moved it anyway.
@DRFHersh As an example here is nam rainfall for 2 pm Saturday: rain north of Lex..different story in lville. Later in day gets riskier so I would just have accelerated posts Saturday, have card end early maybe start early.
Mistake to move this card. Would love to know who is advising them. There is a pretty good chance that most of the heavy rain and thunderstorms will be north and west of Lexington, KY Friday and most of the 1st half of Saturday. The risk isn’t zero. Could move most times and be strategic if need be.
