@GCampbellPsych Retinal circus, I love it! Predictive encoding -interesting.It somewhat scares me to think it could be something about broader networks - the anecdotes of information and messages being carried via gemotric shapes in the DMT trip is interesting too. But could be a false positive
Can someone explain to me why geometric patterns often characterises the psychedelic visual perception aspect. Is it a sensory phenomena ? I.e is it something inherent in the structure of eye neurons - or is it deeper?
Some light reading this morning on what can happen when spiritual experiences are not well integrated. Walach is not necessarily talking about #psychedelics, but it's eerily familiar nonetheless:
Many of us scientists responsible for the psychedelic research renaissance think there is realistic question about heart valve disease from chronic admin of microdoses. LSD, psilocybin, MDMA all agonize 5-HT2B receptors, a mechanism linked to valve disease. It got fen-phen yanked
Delighted to bring you this new (open access) review paper with Ari Brouwer on the 'Pivotal Mental State'. A new construct closely related to psychedelic states: https://t.co/NL20YqoCTh

I would argue that psychedelic is less unitary than pain. Something can feel psychedelic when it isn’t - meditation- that doesn’t mean it is psychedelic. It is not possible for something to feel like pain without being painful
Something is psychedelic if and only if it feels psychedelic, just like something is pain if and only if it feels like pain. These are phenomenal terms that refer transparently or directly. But the conceptual meaning of "psychedelic" is not similarly transparent, interestingly.
