Lately, I’ve been paying close attention to where EV margins in India are actually coming from and it’s no longer just about better hardware. The shift is clearly toward software-led margin expansion. Went through @MohalLalbhai’s latest thinking on @Matter_India’s AIDV platform, and it’s a strong example of how structural costs can be redesigned.
Traditionally, EV P&Ls face margin pressure as hardware ages. Matter is taking a different path. By reworking the vehicle architecture, they are removing redundant BOM costs and unlocking a 25% real-world range improvement through software. From an equity analyst’s point of view, this is rare: stronger unit economics after the sale, without fresh capex.
Bottom line for StockMarket investors:
If intelligence alone can drive a 25% reduction in battery cost per kilometre, the EBITDA trajectory changes meaningfully as the fleet scales. In a price-sensitive market like India, that’s genuine pricing power and a durable competitive moat.
