Dakota County staff works to connect residents with important services like food assistance, healthcare and child support. See how Minnesota’s outdated enrollment software can slow that work down and why counties across the state are looking to modernize it.

Encourages local governments to “start w/ baby steps, even if it’s just starting with joint meetings/dinners,”citing Cass County’s quarterly lunches w/ Leech Lake Tribal Council. That relationship started small but has grown strong and resulted in meaningful partnerships.
So great to see Beltrami County Commissioner, and @MNcounties Tribal Relations Chair Tim Sumner speaking on a national, @NACo panel on county-Tribal relations.
Tim is honest with room about the diversity of Tribal-local government relations within the State, the work to be done, but also the progress that has been made, citing MOUs on everything from water infrastructure, law enforcement, and natural resource mgmt.
Grateful for legislative leaders Demuth, Hortman, Murphy, & Johnson speaking candidly with our members about the difficulties of this session, but recognition that nonpartisan local gov’t may be a good resource/example to look to on how to achieve compromise and move forward.
@mncounties Legislative Conference and County Day at the Capitol has brought 250 county officials and staff to St. Paul to discuss issues important to counties with legislators, state leaders, and each other. @NACoTweets
So sad to hear this. Joining the chorus of so many in saying that Sen. Dziedzic was truly a wonderful person. Compassionate, kind, honest, and relentless in digging into the nuances of public policy. Minnesota is better because of her. Sending prayers to all her family & friends
Sen. Kari Dziedzic, DFL-Minneapolis, has died from the cancer that caused her to step down as Senate Majority Leader in February. She was 62. She died at home on Friday. Story to come.
Be on the lookout 👀: @MNcounties Day at the Capitol! Starting day off with a superstar team of county commissioners talking about importance of County Program Aid/tax bill investments for local governments.
What a busy first day at the @MNcounties Annual Conference! Awesome kick off by @irenekfernando, drop in by @GovTimWalz, and a whole heck of a lot of love for @DaveLislegard and other tax members for their hard work supporting local governments last session.
With great humility, grace, and exceptional intellect—@garyncarlson is one of the most respected voices at the capitol. Local governments (and most importantly, Minnesotans!) have ALL benefited from Gary’s public service. Thank you for everything, Gary—wishing you the best!!
Sen. Ann Rest reads a Senate resolution congratulating my dear colleague and friend @garyncarlson on his distinguished lobbying career with @MinnesotaCities. House version authored by @CLYouakim. https://t.co/oJXSSlPfVG #lmcleg#mnleg
Tax agreement spreadsheet (not policy) out! Grateful for the inclusion of significant County Program Aid, PILT, SCORE, and local housing affordability investments! @MNcounties
To all of this 👏. Feeling very heard and appreciative of the recognition that we cannot continue to starve local governments of resources and expect Minnesota to grow, meet acute challenges, and set the state on a track for success well into the century. @MNcounties
@RepAishaGomez opens tonight’s tax conference cmte meeting underscoring critical importance of providing property tax relief & highlighting the erosion of the state partnership with its local governments who are now, more than ever, dependent on property taxes to fund operations
@DaveLislegard closes with a powerful statement: “we ask our local partners to do an awful lot to serve Minnesotans and we are falling short of giving them the resources they need to meet needs. In the meantime, the mandates keep growing.”
