Understanding your body positions is very important when punting into the wind and with the wind at your back.

The way I like to think about it and teach punting is having your chest over your toes. This helps keep your core activated and allows you to stay under control. When the wind is at my back, I focus on staying stacked into my last step and clearing my hips so I can get up and through the ball. That allows me to use the wind to my advantage.

When the wind is in my face, I’m focused on cutting through it. That means managing trajectory, hitting a tight spiral, and being intentional with my location.

If you don’t know how to punt into the wind, you’re putting yourself at a real disadvantage. It’s hard to be one of the top guys if you can’t perform in the elements. You don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to have a plan.
