On April 27, 2025, I will be running the London Marathon to raise money for pancreatic cancer research. To donate, please go to https://t.co/WftRyL12IB (if you prefer to donate in your own country, let me know and I'll match with a donation to Pancreatic Cancer UK)
Congratulations to Will Knight! His Comment, “When Machines Collude: Rebooting Antitrust Law for the Age of Algorithmic Markets,” was recently published in Volume 75 of the Emory Law Journal.
@bc_butler@derekslater My news consumption has gone up now that I have AI models that can read it to me fluently in a human voice while I’m outside playing with the dogs etc. doesn’t feel like the world is ending
This explainer fails at helping me understand what LLMs do at a conceptual level - the metaphor explainers are better at that. @matthewsag is one of the best explainers for me, personally. But it succeeds at conveying literally what LLMs do.
I think it's ridiculous that ~nobody makes phones as small as the iPhone 12 mini any more. That was already bigger than the original iPhone. Most people want larger phones, fine, but there can't be literally zero people who want a small phone.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

@HoffProf FWIW: Claude has ruined the expression "does real work" for me. I never used to notice it, but now it's everywhere really doing real work in reality.
If only there were a charitable organization that represented all accredited American law schools & was sitting on a massive pot of money that could easily create such a replacement in like a weekend.
@BrendyBoyle@kenearlys More yellow cards! Plus time wasting of 30 seconds by team A should give team B a discretionary extra 60 seconds to add on to the half.
People using TikTok and social media to complain about data centres is something I still can’t get my head around. I think, for some people, “data centre” = AI, and they don’t make the connection that literally everything online runs on data centres.
The claim that AI models are “just compression” misunderstands both compression and models. Memorization alone does not make GPT, Claude, or Gemini equivalent to MP3s of their training data. More here: https://t.co/RFhWbhSIx0
I wrote a short post about my new paper, Copyright's Jagged Frontier, forthcoming article in the Duke Law Journal, https://t.co/5mTbjn0taJ. Download it now on SSRN (who still have it marked as under review!?) https://t.co/n7u5uSzD3k
https://t.co/n7u5uSzD3k Copyright/AI boundary is a jagged frontier. Memorization is complex, its legal implications depend on the interaction of three distinct doctrines—the substantial similarity test, the fair use defense, and secondary liability rules.
