JUST IN: Moeller Legendary Football Coach Steve Klonne Retires
Moeller giant Steve Klonne has announced his retirement from coaching high school football. Twenty-seven years of his life have been dedicated to Moeller High School. He has been a teacher, coach, father-figure, mentor and friend.
Coach Klonne instilled Moeller's core values into the Men of Moeller even before these core values were officially established. Build the Family, Hold the Door and Earn the Shield - yes that's Coach! The impact of this remarkable man extends beyond the walls of Big Moe and now it's time we celebrate him.
We will honor Coach Klonne on Saturday, October 7th when Big Moe takes on Cleveland St. Ignatius. Kickoff is 2 P.M. at Mount St. Joseph's University Schueler Field (5659 Delhi Road, Cincinnati, OH 45238). We will honor Coach Klonne at halftime. We would like you to join Coach at the game.
Coach Klonne started his coaching career at Moeller as a 2-year assistant coach under Gerry Faust in 1979 & 1980 in which the Crusaders won back-to-back State Championships.
Coach served 1-year under Ted Bacigalupo in 1981 in which the Crusaders were State Runner-Up.
In 1982, Coach Klonne was named Head Coach of the Crusaders, a title that he would have for the next 19 seasons in which his teams went 169-48 overall: 57-14 in the GCL and 17-10 in the playoffs.
Coach guided his Crusaders to State Championships in 1982 and 1985 with the '82 team being named by USA Today as National Champions. Coach's teams were also State Runner-up in 1988, 1989, 1993 and 1997.
From 2018-2022, Coach Klonne was named the Special Assistant to the Head Coach at Moeller and in those five seasons, the Crusaders made it to the State Final Four in 2021 and 2022.
Among his many honors, Coach Klonne was named 1982 National Coach of the Year. In 2010, Coach was named the GCL, Southwestern District, Ohio Regional, Cincinnati Bengals Paul Brown and Southwestern Ohio Football Coach of the Year.
Coach Klonne also received the National Collegiate Football Foundation Award for Lifetime Achievement in football. Coach is a member of the Moeller, LaRosa's and Hamilton County Halls of Fame.
Darryn Chenault received a kidney transplant today from his nephew, Arryn Chenault. The surgeries went well, according to the Chenault family.
