Trump didn’t just “move an interview to YouTube.” He tried to censor James Talarico — the Democrat now leading Ken Paxton in Texas Senate polls — off broadcast television.

Desperate Don's corrupted FCC didn’t need an official ban. It put ABC licenses under extraordinary early review and warned stations that a late-night interview with a candidate could trigger federal “equal time” punishment. Texas affiliates got the message. So voters in the state that decides this race were not allowed to see the interview on free TV.

That is election interference with a regulatory gun to the network’s head. This is pure corruption of the free press and the first amendment.

Trump went on that same show twice while he was running. No problem.

Talarico starts polling ahead of Paxton in Texas?

Suddenly the Depression-era broadcast rule becomes a weapon. They didn’t put a censor in the control room. They used fear. They used licenses. They used the FCC to keep a leading challenger off the public airwaves.

The First Amendment exists to protect speech FROM the government — not to protect Ken Paxton from a candidate Texans might actually vote for.

The accusation that I am antisemitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest. Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people. Scrutinizing the Ellisons, including Oracle’s business built on data, surveillance technology and government contracts, and the serious threat to editorial freedom and the loss of a livelihood for thousands of families, is fair and necessary. The $111 billion deal would hand one family control over CNN, HBO and Warner Bros., backed in part by foreign money whose influence on editorial decisions has never been fully explained to the public. 

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for serious national security review, and regulators still haven’t given the public a real answer. Until they do, the merger shouldn’t move forward. Now is the time to dive boldly into all these issues, not step back or concede.
