I’m really happy for Anthony Makie. He’s put so much work into Sam Wilson’s journey, he absolutely deserves a film, and all the praise, Excited to see where Sam and Bucky go next after that insane finale. #CaptainAmericaAndTheWinterSoldier#SamWilsonIsCaptainAmerica
Milly Alcock commands the screen as Kara Zor-El! The strongest part of the film is the performance from its star. I loved how she was able to capture all the tragic nuance of Kara, while having still preserving her kind soul.
I loved the use of practical sets and effects, it added a lot to the overall style of the film. The film has some scene stealers, but my favorite supporting character is David Krumholtz’ Zor-El. He delivers a small but powerful monologue.
There is a lot that I loved and a lot that I didn’t. I feel like the film needs to let the first act breathe and I would have loved to spend more time on Krypton.
Overall, I think this will be an enjoyable summer popcorn film.
#Supergirl
The #Supergirl movie really makes me excited to see her in Man of Tomorrow.
There’s more #Superman in this movie than I expected and the Clark & Kara dynamic is great, especially after Kara’s arc here. Feel like they’re gonna be great to follow.
#SUPERGIRL absolutely rules.
The second installment into the DCU is another incredibly fun one, the common praise you'll hear about this is of course, Milly. And justifiably so, her performance in this is a whirlwind. And she shoulders this hero's odyssey journey on her shoulders, she's funny and chaotic but also sincere during all the emotional cues. Just a phenomenal and perfect casting, the theater erupted for the moment when she first dons the suit.
Eve Ridley is also very impressive and her dynamic with Milly is the engine that keeps this non-stop fast pacing go.
Momoa as LOBO is also another phenomenal casting in the movie, I am just dying to see more of him, he nails everything iconic about the character, he's funny AND badass.
Rob Hardy's cinematography in this as expected is just so good, that camera was MOVING and the action sequences shine everytime. The display of Kara's powers in this was to me, even better than Superman's. Neil Lamont's set design brought his sci-fi adventure to life, and it's just so damn refreshing as a DC fan to finally have a film set in the cosmos, concerning how vital it is to DC's world building. And this movie explores and expands those boundaries, with awesome alien designs, cultures, visually cool planets, different languages, and gadgets. The score was also so electric and the needle drops were very appropriate and fitting.
But it's not perfect, just like Superman I wanted this story to be dissected a bit more and give us a more introspective look. And there was a couple of changes from the original novel I disliked and thought serviced this story less. The moments and payoff still hit, but I was left wanting more.
Nevertheless this story perfectly kick starts Kara's heroine identity for future appearances, and the DCU is confidently two for two on the big screen with Craig Gillespie delivering a film worthy of being the second installment. 7.5/10
