17 year old Freddie Rowe won the Bannister Mile on Monday at Oxford in a time of 4:00.88.
This is the fastest in a BMC race by a 17 year old since a certain Stephen Michael James Ovett OBE ran 4:00.0 exactly at Motspur Park on 25th July 1973.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Ivor Wiggett. RIP Ivor.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of long-standing volunteer, Ivor Wiggett.

Ivor held many roles in the sport over the years, officiating as a highly respected Starter and Starter’s Assistant, and Endurance Official. Involved with runbritain from its inception, he was also a Road Race Adjudicator and RunEvents Chair for the London Region.

He remained active in the sport; just last year - aged 82 - he adjudicated his 500th race, and officiated at over 60 track and field meets.

@d_lovering @ChartUpdate I would agree! However if you define “sales” as physical sales and downloads, then according to the official charts company on 8th November 2023, the biggest selling single not to make number 1 is “Wonderwall” by Oasis, closely followed by “Moves like Jagger” by Maroon 5.

General Secretary of the Free Speech Union, Lord Young of Acton, asked the Justice Minister in the House of Lords to guarantee that at least people accused of speech crimes have a right to a jury trial, which is such an important bulwark of free speech.

She declined.

Trial by jury is a cornerstone of English liberty — especially free speech.

David Lammy’s plans amount to the biggest assault on our liberty in 800 years.

If the Government were serious about reducing delays and the court backlog, they’d stop creating so many new criminal offences -- 65 in the Crime and Courts Bill alone.

If Lammy gets his way and jury trials are scrapped, you’re far more likely to be banged up for hurty words. We cannot let this happen.
