How do you build something meaningful when you're not handed a script?
By starting messy, being wildly curious, and letting the work teach you what it wants to become.
@SimonTuffen@ediz1975 This is also between the two bits you screenshotted. That ambulance is clearly turning.
If this is a car that goes into the side of it, who's the fault with?
It doesn't change because it's a cyclist.
It's either carelessness or they've no idea how to safely ride on a road.
Again, I refer to hazard perception.
A junction, an ambulance that isn't going at any real speed (biggest indication that it intends to turn) and you're saying the cyclist can't have anticipated this from even before the video?
The cyclist should have been stopping sooner, it doesn't even look like he attempts to stop until he's near enough in the side of the ambulance.
It's a straight road with clear visibility and the ambulance has got its lights flashing.
Either he's not assessed the hazard or he's expecting to be given the right of way - either way, it's a ridiculous take to say the cyclist has any grounds to feel aggrieved.
This was basic cycling safety from school, if people can't understand that, then perhaps it should be mandatory for anyone wanting to cycle.
@SimonTuffen@ediz1975 You'd have to be very lenient to say the cyclist doesn't have time to slow down, right from the off that ambulance looks like it's turning.
Ambulance has priority with its lights flashing, the rules of the road don't change for cyclists.
@SimonTuffen@ediz1975 This is literally what hazard perception is for, given you don't know, you err on the side of caution and at the very least anticipate the turn.
One of the best things I did was join group gym training sessions.
I would never go if I was doing it on my own, whether it’s being conscious of judgement or laziness.
Having a group in the same boat, around the same fitness levels has been such a boost.
Exercise is good for the brain and the body.
Looking forward to getting Elden Ring fired up on my Switch 2 tonight.
Would you believe I've never played it? I know, I'm a terrible excuse for a gamer, but that is going to change.
If you could make money without needing the attention, would you?
A lot of people pivot when they realise what draws eyes because it draws money.
I suppose how you answer that question comes down to how authentic your work is after you started making money, no?
I'm beginning to understand why people want to go away from the 'content creator' moniker, it's industrial, makes you feel like you're on a conveyor belt.
'Thinking out loud' or 'writing in public' is a much better distinction.
Are people still on with the FIRE (financial independence retire early) movement? It seemed to be everywhere for a while and now nobody seems to mention it.
Have we all given up on it?
I've found that the fiction books I've enjoyed most have always been one's that have made me feel part of the story. Through memorable characters and good pacing.
Now I need to learn how to use that for my own writing... No pressure.
@J0hnADouglas I’m not sure if it still works, but swap the plan and you should get your 7 day cancellation period back, cancel and should have no charge.
Ridiculous practice but hopefully this works for you.
I keep coming back to my thoughts on how the value of creativity for the creator is in the work itself and despite that, I find myself frozen with fear at the thought of trying to create something and failing.
I've been reading 'The Drunkard's Walk' by Leonard Mlodinow and one of the big ideas that spoke to me recently was regression to the mean.
It reminded me of the concept of the hedonic treadmill, in which you will always revert back to your baseline of happiness.
It means that whatever good or bad happens, you will eventually return to your 'base' emotional state.
A way to improve this is by finding meaningful activities and strong relationships which allows for sustainable happiness rather than a rollercoaster of emotion.
The value of art for the artist should be the process of creating the work itself.
The final output is out of your control and so not important.
In other words, you're not entitled to the fruits of your labour.
