Dave Hughes's 'common sense' is just another rich person whining, @AmyRemeikis writes.
"Hughes’ wealth is neither common, nor his complaints based in sense."
"We don’t hear about the concerns of the silenced majority – we hear from the rich who are only concerned with their wealth."

Both Woolworths & Coles have profits above 14%.
Inflation less 4%.
So cost living crisis on food brought on by these 2.
We need competition in supermarket sector
We were promised ‘national standards’ and then a state as big as QLD is carved out of new data centre rules?! We have a national electricity market on the east coast so what does that mean for the potential to push up prices in other states?
Disappointing that after promising national standards the PM has backed down - and there's still no talk of capturing long term benefits from these data centres. What's the ongoing benefit after the build phase?

The standard of political reporting is farcial.
An unfunded ~$200m Jess Wilson toll subsidy gets waved through.
6c on a train fare to fund future rail and every journalist in Melb is in melt-down.
In 48 hrs and they’ll be back solemnly reporting Jess’s concerns about debt.
Jess Wilson says a 1% PT fare increase means an extra $60 a week.
For that to be true, commuters would need to be spending $6,000 a week on public transport (more than $300k a year).
Did someone check the numbers for the part-time Shadow Treasurer?
One Nation is like Specsavers; the initial cost seems low, but when they add on the extras, it’s the same price as any other store or more expensive. One Nation's 130 thousand immigration level seems low until they do all the extra add-ons.
So, let me get this straight:
✅ Spoke to Yarra Valley Water on site
✅ KNEW it was a burst water main
✅ STILL linked the problem to “funding for road maintenance” - ignoring the information received?
✅ STILL posted the unbranded front of the vehicle in his own video to his own account, ignoring the request?
✅ STILL posted footage of one of the workers on site - again, ignoring the request?
✅ Claims the word “pothole” wasn’t used - throwing @JohnPesutto (who did use the word) under the proverbial bus.
I suppose it’s lucky a “bus or private vehicle” didn’t fall into these gaping holes either.
“If you had any integrity…” 🤦🏻♂️

If you were “helping Australia get out of an economic mess” you wouldn’t be taking the stage to endorse candidates announcing ~$10.8bn in unfunded tax cuts, with no costings, and only increased spending commitments.
How about focussing your celebrity and energy on something that would actually fix the shitshow instead of changing the brand of shitshow?
Maybe speaking to policy experts instead of partisan hacks and aggrieved stakeholders? Or people doing the deep research with community rather than soundbites and anecdotes while travelling?
Be angry, sure. But nobody’s forcing you to make stupid or factually wrong claims while you’re doing it - or undermine yourself calling for “integrity” then having coffee with a guy who’s had at least six major integrity scandals in government.
Let me know if you’d like to meet some actual policy experts who want to improve Victoria/Australia - and have the stats and evidence to back up their claims. If you’re serious about your crusade, I’m sure we can fit them around your tour dates.
My DMs are open to you.
So wait…
A border guard…
…in a state that has no border…
…in a town with no international airport…
…and a harbour that handles mainly aluminium and timber exports…
…which handles so few cargo containers it has just a single Liebherr LHM 420 mobile container crane…
…in a city that doesn’t even handle its own international parcel screening…
…which is not even a legal port of entry for international sailors on yachts…
…is concerned about drug and cash workforce cuts…
…driven by voluntary redundancies that the border guard’s colleagues applied to take…
…and only a fraction of which (~25%) were approved…
…amidst Border Force reporting record hauls of drugs, cash, and illicit tobacco…
…and during record departmental spending…
…the kind of spending Hughesy normally complains about?
Fucks sake, Hughesy. If you can’t test the claim, at least pick a lane.
People remember Abbott relentlessly using “debt and deficit disaster” to bash Labor, while much of the media amplified it with remarkably little scrutiny.
Then Morrison drove debt vastly higher and much of that same media went strangely quiet.
People noticed.

You keep repeating this mistruth, Dave, so let's make it a little more entertaining.
If you can show that I have ever been a member of the Labor Party, campaigned for Labor, done work for Labor, or been paid or contracted by Labor in any capacity whatsoever, I'll donate $1,000 to a politician of your choosing.
If you can't, you donate $1,000 to one of my choosing.
And because I'm feeling generous, I’ll even promise not to make you donate it to Labor.
Surely that is a magnificent deal for you Dave!
I've noticed that your arguments seem to perform best in the very brief window before anyone asks you to prove them.
So here's your chance to break the pattern.
Over to you.
Hey @SenatorWong you chucked out the Iranian ambassador for allegedly singeing a door.
Yet The Israeli ambassador will not apologise for MURDERING an Australian & he's still here.
Please explain?
Senator slams the dirty deal to supersize the security state!
Senator David Shoebridge's powerful speech on ASIO Bill No. 2 deserves to be seen in full.
ASIO's secret police powers to interrogate innocent Australians under the threat of prison terms are now broader than ever.
A serious infringement on our liberty being snuck thru to give ASIO powers to pick you up and interrogate you for 24 hours on suspicion of.. what? hate speech? Planning to protest US military presence?
And who decides what ‘promotion of communal violence’ is? Not a judge. A politician.
Don’t forget - 300K of us were accused of exactly that when we marched across the harbour bridge. A peaceful march against the slaughter of children caused a terror attack at Bondi. And the PM was to blame because he had not introduced repressive measures.
The timing dovetailing nicely with upcoming anti AUKUS, anti war, anti US base protests likely upcoming.
Fucking extraordinary:
The Exclusive Brethren campaigned extensively to help elect the Liberals and allegedly funded far-right agitators, including some linked to neo-Nazis, to track, heckle, ambush and disrupt Labor, Greens and Independent candidates.

There is something deeply funny about billionaires convincing a man making $52,000 a year that the greatest threat to his freedom is another worker making $14 an hour who speaks Spanish.
Brother.
The immigrant didn't outsource your job.
The immigrant didn't buy your hospital.
The immigrant didn't raise your rent.
The immigrant didn't eliminate your pension.
You are being pickpocketed while somebody points dramatically at the guy standing next to you.
Jess Wilson wants to kill renewable projects and find more gas.
Numbers circled in red is the average wholesale price of gas-fired electricity in Victoria over the past year. Green is wind and solar.
Spectacularly stupid.
