West Midlands Cycle expands again, now into central Birmingham. 800 bicycles, 117 docking stations across the 7 areas. Now it just needs to “join the dots” to provide a true network across the urban area. Every WM surburb could have 1 docking station in its centre?

@theeyecollector If you have packaging, then you use it for a note on a car, then it gets recycled, does that make it a tricycle? Love the concept of getting packagers to pre print various obstruction notices for cars, they could become collectible!

That’s incredible usage! Some cities dream of generating that many trips in a year, not a day. Active travel is real if there is a big enough vision and a plan to execute it.

189000 journeys on Paris’s Vélib bikeshare yesterday, including 100000 on the electric bikes in their fleet. Vélib has recovered spectacularly after a painful operator change in early 2018, and has also held its own against the rise of escootershares in the French capital.

London’s second biggest ever day, on 30 May this year, saw 70000 journeys. (beaten by 73000 on a strike day in 2015). A minnow compared to Paris! London’s system is too small & doesn’t cover most of the city. Paris’s model of a dense inner city, but in the suburbs too, is better.

@oobr I’d try and get in quick Joe. Looking at the picture unfortunately I suspect they won’t last long on the streets of Islington. Too many vulnerable parts.
