Don’t let the ‘football’ snobs convince you that ‘soccer’ is a fake name for the sport.
As the #WorldCup kicks off, a reminder that the name ’soccer" isn't some American invention.
If you have been sleeping on @ConversationUS coverage of the World Cup, here's where you can see it all: https://t.co/KJ9hz2uc21 -- it really is very, very good. Clever takes from some of the best soccademics around. And yes, that is a word.
‘Soccer’ is a fine term for the beautiful game – don’t let any ‘football’ snob or president tell you otherwise this World Cup https://t.co/NJ6RA2BOCy via @ConversationUS
The 1994 World Cup helped rescue ‘the beautiful game’ from mediocrity. On its return to the US, expect more of that beauty https://t.co/7z7Y47YpKi via @ConversationUS
@UncleRonisback We are one point off playoff positions with a game in hand. We have had two bad games in a row after losing momentum with Alleyne going, the Hull no game and FA Cup loss. We have the players, just need to find the rhythm again. In Gracia we Trust.
I’m not getting the negativity around Watford. A draw was disappointing on Tuesday, but on another day (and if Maamma wasn’t hooked at halftime for his own protection) we would have won comfortably. And even with a draw, we are only three points off playoffs.
@louorns The biggest positive: even with two of our most creative players injured, we have so much creative depth in the squad: Maamma, Chak, Louza, Irankunda (although poor game for home I thought). Plus striker options much better than last year, Doumbia the pick.
@louorns I kinda would like to see Maama on for Ince…is that reckless? I just feel if they had something to worry about o. The right it might pin them back.
@louorns I honestly can't reconcile this with the eye-test (mine) of Ngakia. After Louza I would rate him as our best player this year -- very often keeps the opponent's right wing quiet and generates chances when going forward ... he is also our second top scorer!
@BaitVic There is a massive difference in replacing a player in second half. A first half sub is a statement, a second half one is isn't. Subbing off a young player in the first half is a pretty shitty thing to do -- it needlessly embarrasses them.
@louorns Don't think it was that negative (other than the two right backs). Replace one of them for Baah or Maamma (who seemed to be playing on right wing for Morocco) and then that is a strong line up.
