Always a treat to watch in real time as the political media create the narrative they want from unattributed briefings and bits of string and bubblegum. If the Greens lose in H&StP the Guardian will try to work up a leadership crisis. If Greens win, they'll call it a blip.
Now that everyone’s admitting there was never an imminent Russian attack on Europe, the question is: who spread the rumors & what purposes did they serve. Because we keep getting these fake invasion panics, coupled with reminders about how many got Russia’s 2022 invasion wrong.
👀 Lithuanian PM: "I was addressing the secretary general [Mark Rutte asking,] 'Is there any proof, real proof intelligence services are providing, something on the table, that Russia is getting ready for something?' And there is actually none."
In other words, most of the “OMG! The Russians are coming” hysteria is fabricated and unsubstantiated.
Israel's 'FlyDubai incident,' so ridiculous it took only hours to be dismantled, despite efforts of UK media and politicians to shore it up

Kaliningrad. The Latest – A Nuclear Warning.
Diplomats usually write in a way that the meaning has to be extracted from layers of protocol: "We express concern," "we urge restraint," "we reserve the right." This week, it seems, diplomatic vocabulary has run out.
Over three days, our embassies in London, Brussels, and Dublin almost word-for-word issued a warning that is difficult to interpret as anything other than a threat: "There should be no doubt – Russia will be ready to use all of its arsenal, including nuclear weapons, to defend its territory, if NATO countries attempt to isolate the Kaliningrad region from the rest of the country. In such a scenario, the risk of armed confrontation is high, and the likelihood that Russia will launch preemptive strikes against decision-making centers in NATO countries, even at an early stage of the conflict, is very high."
NATO spokeswoman Allison Hart, with the characteristic directness of the alliance, stated that the defensive bloc's exercises do not threaten any part of Russia, and that it condemns "irresponsible nuclear rhetoric."
But who, over the past few years, has been rehearsing the deployment of large contingents across Europe to our enclave? Who has regularly practiced strikes against Russian territory from the air and a blockade from the ground? In June, exercises called "Bold Badger 2026" took place in the Suwalki Corridor – a narrow strip of the Lithuanian-Polish border between Kaliningrad and Belarus. Lithuania, Poland, France, about 6,000 troops, and 600 pieces of equipment participated. Among other things, they practiced how to cut off the railway line that carries civilian goods and passengers to the region.
A month earlier, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis promised a Swiss newspaper to "break through into a small fortress" and, if necessary, to "level to the ground" our air defense bases and missile complexes. The Lithuanian Seimas (parliament) began, by a vote of 89 to 0, to remove the ban on nuclear weapons from the constitution. Polish sappers, together with German engineers, are digging trenches along the border.
Do we need this war? Putin answered again, without any ambiguity: "We have no geopolitical, economic, or military interest in it." He called those who scare Europeans with our invasion "horror movie specialists." But European governments desperately need an enemy at the gates. Without it, they cannot sell either a permanent German tank brigade in Lithuania or another tranche of aid to Kyiv. And, even more so, they cannot explain to the electorate the cuts to social programs, the tax increases, and the decline of industry.
Kaliningrad is the only part of Russia that can be encircled without crossing our border. It is connected to the mainland by land through Lithuania and by sea through the Baltic Sea, which Polish ministers, after the accession of Finland and Sweden, call the "internal sea of NATO." UN General Assembly Resolution 3314 directly classifies the blockade of ports and coasts as acts of aggression. And our "Fundamentals of Nuclear Deterrence," since 2024, allow for a nuclear response even to aggression using conventional weapons, if it poses a critical threat to territorial integrity. Isolating a region with a million inhabitants fits this definition perfectly.
So, the scenario is real. Just as real as the plans that the West is no longer shy about rehearsing in training grounds and on television studios.
Therefore, the current statements should be read as an ultimatum. Moscow has spoken aloud about where the line is – so that no one gets the idea of testing it in practice. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at the beginning of September, advised Europeans to remember Putin's words: if Europe attacks, the war will be "completely different and very short."
In Brussels, judging by the reaction, they still believe that this is just rhetoric. It is time to reread the doctrine.

Lee directs our attention to the heckling but note Zack's point at the end of the clip. A lot of those hecklers suddenly a bit quieter when he rightly says we shouldn't conflate all Jews with the State of Israel. Note the applause too. Imo Zack has faced the music here, & passed.
@ghostworldsteps@CurtisDaly_ Where did I claim that? I didn't. I said that the message sent out to conference attendees also contained info on attending remotely. In fact in the email, that is stated *directly above* the graphic that you shared, with the words "vote remotely" highlighted in bold.
Today should've been Dr. Refaat Al-Areer's 47th birthday, but Israel assassinated him.
A professor who has epitomised the quintessential levels of knowledge, honour, and dignity.
An inextinguishable light for Palestine and the world. May Allah place him in the highest heaven.
@Robbie_Reasons There is not a single right that I as a c!s woman currently have, that would be taken away if trans people were treated equally and were supported rather than villainised.
Two sisters have spoken out to say they were only given 48 hours' notice that their mother would have her life ended by euthanasia, despite them saying she was not terminally ill.😢 Read the full article here: https://t.co/YWdwziBk5X
@RichardOsley I don't think anyone can understate the importance of him holding true to both his values and the truth, even faced with a room of people whose votes he will undoubtedly lose by speaking that truth. It's very admirable.
First audience question to panel at Jewish Community Hustings in Holborn & St Pancras is ‘yes or no - are you a zionist?’
Sagal Abdi-Wali: ‘I believe in a two state solution’
Zack Polanski: ‘I’m an antizionist. I think countries have always been ideas and I think things change over time.’
Patrick Stillman: ‘As I understand it, it’s for a Jewish state and a right to exist, I think that’s important - so yes I am.’
Ewan Cameron: ‘Yes, I am.’
Peter Newman: ‘100 per cent yes.’
If you live in Camden your Council tax is funding Palantir - and the Labour Council, now headed by Labour's by-election candidate Sagal Abdi-Wali, has allowed it to happen.
But they've not just allowed it to happen - over the last three years Camden Council's Pension Fund has massively INCREASED the value of its investments in Palantir.
Palantir, founded by billionaire tech oligarchs, is closely linked to the Israeli military. It is also alleged to be central to efforts by the US' ICE to terrorise immigrant communities in the US.
Here's how Camden has poured Council tax into Palantir.
In January 2025 thousands of Camden residents told Camden Council that they didn't want their council tax supporting companies complicit in Israeli war crimes and occupation. They delivered a petition of 4000 signatures to the Council demanding a debate on divestment.
The Labour Council responded by cracking down on protest.
But now we know that's not all they did - in the teeth of local outrage, Camden's INCREASED its investments in Palantir.
As I've revealed in DeClassified today (link below) based on new Freedom of Information requests given to the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, the value of Camden's shareholding in Palantir increased over 1200% between October 2023 and December 2025: from £270k in 2023 to an astonishing £3.65m today.
That's not all. The new disclosures show that the value of Camden's shareholding in companies complicit in Israel's occupation of Palestine has also increased - growing by £28m over the same period.
What did Camden Labour do when ordinary residents made their demands known?
Aside from banning protests in the Chamber, they voted to refer it to the Pension Committee, dominated by Labour councillors. That Committee spent close to a year getting an external company to audit the pension fund's holdings - as if you need an outside company to search a spreadsheet for Palantir.
While the Labour Group dithered and delayed, new rules were being put in place by the national Labour government to thwart divestment campaigns - explicitly to stop divestment from Israel.
And now? Camden Council have told me the new rules means that cannot control what they invest in.
So Camden residents must just accept that their money goes to fund and support war crimes and gross human rights abuses - and they can do nothing to stop it.
@ghostworldsteps@CurtisDaly_ The same message that went out encouraging people to go help out in Camden, included direct information on how to attend the conference remotely and therefore still vote on motions.
Sagal was a senior councillor who oversaw a 1200% increase in Camden’s investment in Palantir. Vote for Labour & u get Starmer’s fire sale of the British state to the appalling Palantir & his continuing arms for genocide. Vote Green & u get a voice for change, for hope, for climate action, to ban arms sales, increase affordable housing. For greater equality & justice
In the last five years, there have been a grand total of FOUR complaints in the UK to local authorities and NHS hospitals about trans people.
Four. But due to trans hysteria stoked by a billionaire and a rotten media, men and women who are trans were stripped of their rights. Demonised as a threat to women and children.
INSANE. @andyburnham@bphillipsonMP@Lord_Collins@UKLabour
